I can get the galaxy tab 10.1 for like $250. Its got dual core and I can ics on it. The quad core tablets are $400 plus. Is it worth it for quad core for surfing the web checking email and watching movies YouTube etc? Will things be smooth on ics like they are on quad core?

I've no experience with Android slates but most apps won't make use of a quad-core, I'd say a dual-core would be just fine. I'm sure someone familiar with Android will chime in here... Can you give them both a try though?

If just using it for low power tasks then dual core will be sufficient.
Note that most dual core SoC's can only play high profile 720p MP4's....mkv doesn't work that well at times and 1080p is pushing it (especially for Tegra 2, the OMAP 4 has no problems with 1080p the last I looked)

according to AC and other reviews it has a dual core 1ghz OMAP....so probably a downclocked OMAP 4430 or some other OMAP 4 SoC

My dual core lg connect 4G can play the sintel 1080p mkv just fine.

Depending on the tasks I don't think you'll need a quad core for anything besides benching.

only some SoC's
I remember Tegra 2 not being able to play 720p mkv smoothly on my OG TF101 nor could it play higher bitrate/quality 1080p

I've been doing allot of research over the past week trying to decide if I want to grab a tablet now or wait till Asus releases the TF700t sometime in the next few months and from what I've read the video playback on these things still has allot to with the software being used to play the files. Even on some of the newest Tegra 3 tablet people were saying to play videos ditch the media player that came with it and download such and such from google play.

To the OPer I think I'd say this: Other than some games that are being specifically made for the Tegra 3 processor there isn't much out there that will fully use the benefits of the chip. However just like in the PC world at some point the software will catch up to the hardware so having the 4 core could be a good thing at that point. Now on the other hand by the time the software does catch up there might be a 6 core one out biggrin.gif

if you grab one now, grab the tf300t. its very nice. smile.gif

but if you want to wait and can dish out the $700 for the 700t, go for that.

Well, I've got the $700 set aside for Pc purchases in general and since I don't like to settle for the cheap side when it comes to this type of stuff I'd be willing to pay that for the TF700 if it really turns out to do everything is should. But if it comes out and has the same problems that the Prime had, then I'll just laugh and figure something else out biggrin.gif

As for the TF300, I went to Best Buy today and just like the reviews I've read said it seems really flimsy and cheaply constructed so that ended any chance that I'd pick that one up.
