First ever over-clock, Need advice, tips and some love <3

Thread Starter
Ok! So after initially being terrified of trying to OC my rig I have been doing some more reading and realized it's not as terribly hard is it seems. In fact it's actually quite easy, that is, if I am doing everything correctly ^_^.

I basically began reading Ultimate OC guide posted here on OC.net by Sin which a user told me to follow. I have been using it as a blueprint and guide on how to do an over-clock. Thankfully my mobo Gigabyte UD5H z77 also makes this a breeze.

Well I have dialed in some basic settings and I can probably lower voltage further as I have not gotten a BSOD yet but I am having one problem that is particularly bothering me.

My Voltage settings in bios and what CPU Z are showing are not the same.

Currently at 45Xmultiplier and 1.350V in bios my CPU Z is showing 45Xmultiplier but only 1.332V which is clearly not correct as in my bios it clearly shows 1.350V.

Here is what CPU Z shows atm.

CPUZ45GHZ-1.png

Currently I have done the following in BIOS:

Disabled:

- C1E

- EIST

- C3, C6

- CPU THERMAL MONITOR

- Turbo Multiplier

-IGPU

ENABLED:

- Hyperthreading

-XMP profile 1 to set RAM at 1600MHZ

Other than that, that's pretty much it

Are there any other settings I need to change to optimize my OC? This is my first ever OC so I'm in a little over my head but doing the best I can with what I know.

Also what is BCLK and do I need to change it?

I can see why OC'ing can be addictive it's actually really fun and I am having a blast doing this. I haven't experienced a BSOD yet at 1.360V but before I do any more tweaking I want to know why the voltages are not showing correctly.

Also a user on the forum told me I should re-enable C1E as well as the C3 and C6 state to get better SSD performance if I am not going to be using off-set voltages. What are off-set voltages and do I need them?

Currently my temps are: not under load

its called vdroop and its completely normal.. the voltage never runs at what its set at in bios except when its idling. dont worry about it.

dont change the BCLK ever on an 1155 chip.

Leave C1E disabled and Enable C3 and C6. Your Idle temps will be way better.

Ok will do! At the moment I have decided to shoot for a 4.8GHZ stable OC. I am currently running P95 and have yet to BSOD with 48Xmultiplier at 1.40 Voltage. How long would you say p95 needs to run without a crash to call an OC stable? Right now under load of p95 blend the hottest core is hitting 65C it was idling at mid 30's until I hit it with P95.

How long should I run p95 for before I can consider my OC stable?

Thanks for the tips also! I will set Cstates back on if it will help with idle temps ! What do you guys think I can squeeze out in terms of voltages at 4.8 GHZ?

Oh and nvm Max temps reached so far was high 60's showing the package rated at 70C that was max so far. Min was mid 30's before I turned on P95. Is this normal? Hottest the hottest core has gotten was 68 so far, my fans don't kick up to 100% until 65 I believe.. however my FAN PWM in HWmonitor is only showing 30%?

Averaging about 65 with one core running significantly cooler at about 60C while the other three are sitting around 65 on average running p95 blend.. if this goes stable for a few hours should I try reducing voltage further?

My other question is is running a at 4.8GHZ going to shorten the life-span of my CPU even if the temps are good? If so, what would be a 'safe' OC to sit at. I need this CPU to last at least 2-3 years!
