Help me choose a processor

Thread Starter
Obviously an AMD processor, I'm considering the FX 6200, FX 8120/8150, or possibly an older Phenom II. Please give me an opinion on what processor I should choose.

Please don't post anything on Intel CPUs, I am very aware of the prices being almost the same and the fact intel's CPUs are better then AMDs I have a Sabertooth 990FX board and am not looking to replace it with a Z77.

I used to have a 960T and it didn't unlock or OC well, probably a bad chip. On accident a pin snapped off when I removed it from a faulty motherboard and decided it wouldn't be worth trying to get a replacement since it was my fault. The 960T is cheaper and I keep getting it recommended, but if I buy it again I'm going to need persuading :/

perhaps the reason it didn't OC well was you needed to roll back your BIOS?
How about a Cinebench comparison of fx4100 and 960T? biggrin.gif

or the difference in WEI between Zosma @ 4.2 and 2500k @ 5.0?(960T is lower rolleyes.gif )

That's a good possibility, and going for a Phenom II X6, the only one that is ever in stock is the 1045, and I don't want to spend more money on a 1090 or 1100 on ebay.

I'm just sayin' 960T is a very nice chip..runs cool....If you were running the later BIOS on your board..It may have caused issues because later
BIOSes are geared for FX cpus.Even if it doesn't unlock..still a very nice quad-core.I leave mine locked all the time anyway..on account of massive heat dump
with it unlocked..177w according to..some monitoring utility
1045T is locked frown.gifthumbsdownsmileyanim.gif
..I like my 960T.I can hardly wait to get back to it lachen.gif:

It may not be worth it to get a replacement CPU, but I would definitely recommend soldering a new pin on...if it's even a necessary pin.

Welp, you can wait for Vishera if you can wait for a little longer. But if you NEED to get a new one, 960T or 955.
i would wait for piledriver to come out. they are suppose to be am3+, use a better architecture than bulldozer, have very high clock rates, and amd 7000 series graphics. when they first come out, dont splurge and get one, wait for the reviews. if they are any good, i would get one. wink.gif
