Lets see some direct die water cooling on ivy bridge - Page 5

The edges of the die are only .5mm high, so there would be no point in trying to cool that (near zero surface area and using water instead of metal). Not to mention I think the epoxy that holds the die down is built up around the edges of the die, so your water wouldn't even contact anything but that epoxy.

In terms of PCB cooling, the socket already takes care of that. 1055 pins touching the PCB with metal throughout is a pretty good heatsink smile.gif

This ^^^ and you would be taking an extreme risk at having a leak due to expansion and contraction. Any gain would be far outweighed by the chance of a major meltdown of epic proportions. Krakatoa comes to mind or Chernobyl. Thought about something similar like cutting bottom of the block out and siliconeing it to the PCB, but realized that there was a good possibility of erosion from the constant flow of water. Also was a chance that the dissimilar metals dissolved in the water could react with the die as well ! Snorkle.gif
