Ive been getting awful random stuttering whilst playing D3 and WoW which I started noticing all of a sudden, all other games appear fine . At first I thought it was my OC being too high at 1100 core and 1800 memory so I reduced it to 1080/1752, same result, I then tried stock and again same thing. Only thing next to try was the drivers so I began with final release 301.42 proceeding upto 305.68(modified inf), all drivers have same resultand by this time I spend well over 12hrs testing over the last 2 days so it was beginning to annoy me. All the drivers ive tried have produced no driver crashes, some seem to perform better than others performance wise but all give the same stutter which got me thinking perhaps its my pc, so I tested in another machine with same result. Perhaps its the card which I was praying it wasnt since this card OC'd very well then I remembered reading some people had issues with the 680's and still are which has become an issue for the 670's also. After much research I discovered some had resolved the issue by using MSI 300.83 driver so my next step was to try that but I decided to tinker with the nividia control panel for specific games with current driver 305.68 forcing more demanding quality settings which seems to have recified the situation (touch wood) with no stuttering for over 2 hours whereas before it wouldve occured numerous times.Warning: Spoiler! Settings ive settled at are
Image setting to "Quality" then advanced settings changed for
Antialialsing mode "Override"
Antialialsing setting "32x CSAA" (anything lower stuttering persists)
Antialialsing trans "Multisample" (supersample gives same results with less fps)
Triple buffer "Enabled"
As all seems to be working at the moment ive yet to try the 300.83 drivers but will do if stuttering reappears.
This issue has become rather tidious to say the least so im hoping some final drivers that rectify the problem come soon.
With this issue the desktop cards seem to have for some, my 680m using mobile 302.77 (essentially is a 670 downclocked) has no issues with using quality preset settings with vsync adaptive on so I dont know whats gone wrong somewhere.
Anyway, for the time being it appears I have a solution...
After more testing I decided to try remove the settings, uninstall the 305.68 drivers, run driver sweeper and reinstall the same drivers which was a positive result with no more stutter, therefore the above spoiler is irrelevant now and edited out.Edited by nemm - 8/20/12 at 3:41pm
