I like to follow DimmyK to contribute some of my findings. Afterall, how can a study of GTX470 and GTX670 be completed without the middle GTX570s? biggrin.gif

I do not have all the benchmarks in my system and so I can only do whatever is already installed.
In addition, I have tried to match brettjv's spec as close as possible. My CPU (i7 965) is reset to 3.886GHz (134x29) and my GTX570s are reset to 799/1000. However, I am using Vista 64-bit and Geforce 296.10.

Nonetheless, here they are:-

3dMark11 v. 4.60 (Performance) - I am still using the 4.60 version. I will run 4.90 to see any difference. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
647

3dMark11 v. 4.90 (Performance) - centered mode Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
373

Unigine Heaven 3.0 (All Maxed, 8xAA, Extreme Tess, etc) Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
619

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat Benchmark (all settings maxed/High HBAO/10.1/Tessellation/CHS all on) Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
339

Mafia 2 (all maxed) - my CPU should be at 3.88GHz but somehow it is recognized as 3.21GHz Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
375

Metro2033 (All Maxed except ADoF is off) Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
527

For total system power usage (excluding the monitor), it is around 630-680W. This data is not much useful as everyone's system is different and my system has a TEC cooling unit as well.

For temperature, I am using a test bench and so there is no top or bottom card. But, the card closer to the CPU (thus having airflow slightly restricted) has temp of around 67-69C while the card closer to the edge of the mobo is about 3C cooler. Ambient is a high 30C.

Crysis finally installed, and the bench is run. I seem to see a difference with the SB chip here (2600k HT on) even running at stock speed. 1389 on Heaven is no slouch, yet I scrape past it with 1403 with a slightly weaker pair of GPUs. I didn't beat the stock 680 tho.

Great Thread! thumb.gif

I think I will wait one more generation before upgrading. Seems like there isn't a single GPU that can beat my current 570 SLI setup. I got a graphics score of 13,501 in 3DMark 11 when I ran it last year. I am sure it would be even higher if I ran it again with newer drivers.

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1921171

I do wish I had more VRAM though.

Running PhysX on one card that's part of a SLI set is a joke, it works like ca-ca ... been telling people that for years. I actually played the game with the SLI off, using one card for rendering and one for dedicated physX. It plays better even if FPS is a little lower that way on average.
And no you're not blind ... the Bokeh filter option doesn't appear in JC2 when you're running SLI.
Hopefully I get a good OC'er, cause otherwise ... based on your results with the 680, I'm probably going to be taking an FPS hit when I move to the 670. But not having a little furnace right next to my leg in the AZ summer is gonna be worth it. Not only that, 800MHz is not my 24/7 clock anyways. It could be, but ... it's too hot here and I don't like to abuse my cards. I did pretty much all my gaming on these cards at 700(1V), so I won't be losing any FPS at all, really thumb.gif
Thanks again man, great job!

I that case I predict no FPS hit at all. 700 to 800Mhz is 14% difference. Even if scaling is not linear (and as far as I remember, its pretty darn good with Fermi), you still looking around 10% slower @ 700Mhz. Frankly, I won't be surprised if OCed 670 overtakes 470s @ 700 GPU. You have nothing to loose really, and a world of smoothness to gain thumb.gif

And I know exactly how you feel about incoming card: I am waiting for my new Asus GTX 680 DCII to arrive tomorrow, really hoping it will clock as well as my EVGA (which does 1327Mhz on GPU). Good luck with your 670, hope it clocks really well biggrin.gif

Edit: I should keep that pic from Heaven, just to troll people with.. as it's picked up the GMA3000 as the GPU in use.. Which it is, but it's running 2 other displays, not the one the SLI setup is powering.

Isn't it just because he benched his 470s at H settings and you did at P settings. My GTX 470s at 800 and i7 at 4.75GHz do 37k GPU score in Vantage.

I was talking about how his 448's beat my 470's (also 448's, really) in Heaven bench. Didn't make sense to me ... they should be the same considering clocks are the same, but ... maybe the better 'z-culling' algorithm that 500-series supposedly has makes a big effect on Heaven. It definitely does in Vantage ... 500-series will smack an otherwise equal 400-series card in Vantage ... but I've never noticed them winning by any noticeable margin in Heaven.

EDIT: Added Windfire and Dimmy's results to the OP ... thanks again guys, great job! Rep's all around thumb.gif

Yeah ... probably in your shoes I wouldn't either. 570's run cooler than 470's, and have quite a bit higher OC'ing potential. Not sure I could stomach the FPS loss going to 670/680 from 570 SLI.

If it makes ya feel any better, my vram was slammed full (1261MB usage) on Crysis, Crysis 2, and Metro ... but it really doesn't seem to cause any problems relative to the 2GB cards. There's a decent overhead on mem usage before FPS starts to really suffer. You'd have to 'use' like 1.5-1.6 before the 1.2GB cards start to really crap out in my estimation.

Only if you like to play around with graphics cards. Otherwise, not really worth the trouble.

Lol, I hear ya. I do this all the time, this Wednesday I will most likely won't feel well, or my internet connection will go down for a day (I work from home), or power will be out, etc.

Now it's most painful part of waiting: "Where is that god damn UPS truck?!?!?! Those lazy bums eating lunch somewhere instead of hurrying to my house" biggrin.gif
