[TorrentFreak] Microsoft Funded Startup Aims to Kill BitTorrent Traffic - Page 7

To understand just how rediculous the claims multiple companies in the video and music industry make. Please watch the video from Ted.com http://www.ted.com/talks/rob_reid_the_8_billion_ipod.html. This sums up the gross hipocracy many corporate entities make about loss revenue. Very entertaining.

So much this. I'll pay the $$ to see some movies because my god, there's no substitute for some grand large screen viewing with the sound reverbing your seat as you watch biggrin.gif

Agreed, there are two theaters within three miles of my house but I drive a lot further to a theater that has stadium seating and an excellent sound system (and IMAX for the few movies that seem worth it).

So really, they're paying these guys 20-50k for no reason and taking even more of a loss. Yes, people should pay if they want to see all these shiny new movies and what not but lets face it, a small portion of those films are ever worth the money paid to see them.
Thats not always true, Some content is not available in all markets. Thus the grey pirate market pops up to fill the gap.

Disneys Song of the South is available in europe, but not in the USA.

Sometimes piracy is cuased by lack of content availability. I imported the dvd for my wife's collection and converted it to ntsc.

Had to Google it. From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Song of the South is a 1946 American musical film produced by Walt Disney and released by RKO Radio Pictures. The film is based on the Uncle Remus cycle of stories by Joel Chandler Harris. The live actors provide a sentimental frame story, in which Uncle Remus relates the folk tales of the adventures of Br'er Rabbit and his friends. These anthropomorphic animal characters appear in animation. The hit song from the film was "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah", which won the 1947 Academy Award for Best Song and is frequently used as part of Disney's montage themes, and which has become widely used in popular culture. The film inspired the Disney theme park attraction Splash Mountain.
The film has never been released in its entirety on home video in the USA,[3] because of content which Disney executives believe would be construed by some as politically incorrect and racist toward black people, and is thus subject to much rumor. Some portions of this film have been issued on VHS and DVD as part of either compilations or special editions of Disney films.

I wonder why Europeans have access but we in the USA don't?

Probably because the content would not be as controversial in Europe. Releasing that film in some parts of the USA might start a minor war in court, at least.
