Mini-ITX build for emulators - Page 3

Oh, I must have missed that post.

I don't have a GPU lying around so I would need to buy something like a GTX 460. Right now I'm leaning towards the i5-3570k with the HD 4000 graphics and I'll pick up a dedicated GPU if I need it. The FM1 CPU's look great except there is almost no selection with ITX AMD motherboards so maybe I'll wait for Trinity and see if there are some nice boards released with it.

a 3570k would be a pretty decent choice, it seems like.

are you set on the Q11?
what's your drive situation like?
did I miss your post where you talked about your emulation needs? i know you posted that you need variety,
but what exactly is the most demanding thing you desire to emulate?

I like the Q11 because I want to use a Lian-Li case and I like the fact there are no LED fans or exterior doo-dads for lack of a better word tongue.gif.

I have a blu-ray drive I'm not using that I was going to put in there.

I'm going to emulate NES, SNES, N54, and PS1 games as that's where the bulk of my collection is and I can reuse my old controllers using a USB adapter.

Being able to emulate PS2 would also be nice. I can already play my PS2 games on my PS3, but when the PS4 is released I imagine they'll remove PS2 backwards compatibility.

ill get to it tomorrow. it would be nice to just see side by side results since there are not many out there.

there are alot of itx fm1....

My asrock is a good starter

For some reason that Asus board didn't show up when I searched for FM1 boards on NCIX. I'm actually pretty tempted to try out the FM1 chipset now.

If you do go for it, make sure to post your results!

PCSX2/Dolphin are CPU intensive. Get a fast CPU. If you play at upsampled resolutions with extra filters/effect, you need a fairly strong GPU too.

Could I maybe persuade you to use something smaller? tongue.gif
Doesn't really sound like you exactly need the girth of a Q11.

I was thinking something more along the lines of a Wesena or Habey enclosure.
Even an SG06 would be smaller.

I think that the GPU would be slightly more relevant in these cases,
but a strong CPU is a necessity.

That said, any 4-thread CPU or recent architecture, clocked at or above 2.8GHz, should be fine.

The thing is that my only limitation is that I have to buy these parts off of NCIX.
