On my mobo it says single 16x, dual 8x/8x

That's what it says on the Asus Sabertooth Z77.

Can someone help me understand what that means?

Would I see a performance drop if I got two cards in CF?

This means that if you use a single GPU it will run at the x16 bandwith.

If you run CF/SLI each card will run at x8 bandwith which you will see about a 2-5% loss over x16....soo nothing at all unless you run synthetic benchmarks you will see 2-3point differences.

Now.....You have a Z77 chipset and with a Ivy bridge CPU you will enable PCI X 3.0...which PCI X 3.0 x8 has the same bandwith as PCIX 2.0 x16

so go run CF you will not bottleneck any GPUs in the market out biggrin.gif

No 2 cards in cf wouldn't see a performance loss. Even the 6990 can't saturate the pcie 2.0 x8 lanes and the z77 should be Pcie 3.0 which alone has double the bandwidth of 2.0.

You bought a great board.. and dont worry about the IHS on the 3770K

4.5Ghz and a H80 should be more then enough for daily use with good temps. The reason people are un happy with the Ivys is because they dont hit 5ghz like sandy did....

I dont see what the point of running at 5Ghz for gaming would be tongue.gif

Yeah, who would ever run at 5.0GHz newbs for sure. (don't mind my sig and system specs)tongue.gif anything above 4.3 will not be bottlenecked by current crossfire of any cards. I just bought a 3570k for the pcie 3.0 as well. biggrin.gif
