[SR5710F] Compaq Desktop reboots at windows logo screen (loading screen)

Thread Starter
NOTE: I was not certain on where to post this so I decided to post it here and hope that this is the most appropriate forum for my question.

My cousin came to me about a week ago wanting me to get rid of a virus on his computer. I went to go check it out and it was loaded with viruses and spyware to the point where I couldn't do even the simplest of tasks. Instead of removing all the crud on the computer manually I decided to reformat the hard drive. Of course my cousin did not have the recovery discs. Fair enough. Used my backup windows 7 disc to reformat. Took the hard drive out of the computer and threw it in my computer to be reformatted. (for some reason his disc drive wasn't wanting to read the disc)

Everything was A-OK on my computer was happy with the results took it back to his computer and threw it in. That's when I came across the topic problem every time it got to the windows logo (loading screen right after the bios screen) it loaded the flag and animated for about 5-10 seconds and then.... BAM! Computer shuts down and starts back up on it's own. Tried it again and again and again kept having the problem I tried every troubleshooting problem in the book I even took out the lithium battery on the motherboard and drained the power. Even took out the RAM sticks and tried different combinations I was so desperate to find a solution. Nothing worked.

Took it back to my computer reformatted again only this time I only plugged in my mouse and keyboard and as soon as the installation was done and asked me to create my first username I shut the computer off and took the hard drive back to his computer only to run into the same problem.

Today I finally said screw it and took the whole computer with me and instead reformatted with a official hp / Compaq recovery disc that went to my hp laptop. Again everything worked fine on my computer go to throw it back into his computer yet again the same problem. Not sure why he is having this problem I have been reformatting hard drives since I was 13 (I'm 21 now) I've probably done it over 100 times with no problem (okay to be fair I've had the rare hiccup here and there but nothing I couldn't fix). I seriously am starting to believe that somehow I messed something up which is very rare for me which is why it's hard to believe.

But putting my arrogance aside can any one please help me diagnose what the problem might be? Any help would be appreciated

This is a Compaq Presario SR5710F desktop computer.

A Windows installation is sometimes not transferrable to different motherboard/cpu configurations, your best bet is to install it using a usb disk in his computer.

Yeah, Windows pretty much has to be installed on the hardware to be run on. Drivers are so complex now... the last Windows version that I had any luck migrating to new PCs was XP.

+1 for the USB Install.
