DVD Region issues--- Help?

Thread Starter
Ok so I made a clean install in my GF's laptop, it's running like a charm...

Except for the part that it can't play other region DVD's mad.gif It WAS capable of doing this before. What's the issue? I tried playing a Region 1 DVD (Invader Zim's Season 1) and it didn't play.

I can't even play it with Media Player Classic 1.5.3 (I have CCCP installed on her system). All DVD's work with VLC, but we all know VLC sucks.

Is there a way to make her DVD reader region-free or play those DVD's?

The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L645-SP4011M and the DVD burner is a Toshiba MK5065GSXN. OS system is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x86 and all the updates have been installed..

SOmetimes for opti. drives there are different firmware to allow changes like that. Not all of the drives themselves are responsible for the region coding BS. Maybe try downloading a recent codec pack. Does winamp work?
Maybe run it through DVDshrink/Nero Recode and see if it will ditch the region (has an option)

How many times did you change DVD regions? I believe VLC remove DVD region code on the fly.
