h100 High Temps

Thread Starter
I know, I know another H100 thread. I read through a few pages after searching for "2500k and H100 High temps" My temps are ridiculously high. 85C max after only 2 minutes of LinX..at stock speeds...

I messed up the first apply to its currently using some MX-2 paste. Do I just need to reapply the paste again? My room is a little warm(80F) but I still dont think I should be getting 36C idle and 84C max temps...at stock speeds.

Anyone have any idea, other than re apply the TIM and reseat? I have the pump set to max preformance, so it should be doing 2500rpm if working. I am not sure about the fans though. on start up they get nice and loud, but after that they never change speed no matter how hot the cpu gets, faulty fans? Have the 2 fans plugged into the H100 and the H100 fan header plugged into the CPU fan header on mobo.

ty in advance, and +rep for helpful answers!

Can you pls run HW Monitor so we can see the pump speed?

As to the fans, the plug that goes into the CPU header is to detect the speed of the fans, There is a molex plug that needs to be hooked up as well... is that molex plugged in?

yo got to reseat the HS for sure.. just take a very tiny dot and spread it equally and gently without
lettin go until you fixed the screws holding it.. one more thing.. dont make the screws either too loose or to tight.

Also, just make sure you pump head is flush with the cpu die. I had a problem with mine, similar to you. I removed the pump head and only half of the cold plate had TIM on it.

I rotated the pump head 90 degrees and it sat much better - the caps around the CPU where too close and stopped it from sitting flush.

Thanks. Pump speed appear nominal thumb.gif

Make sure you have the molex plug connected when you do the reseat, thats where your fans are getting their power from.

Also, when you take the pump off, just check the cold plate and see if there is a covering of TIM on the whole plate and cpu die.

If there isnt, the cold plate is not sitting flush and something is obstructing the placement.

reseated it this morning. TIM was def not right. heavy in some spots could see CPU through it on others. some had none. put it back on and now idle temps are ~7-8C cooler. havent done anything else yet.

Wow I'm glad I found this thread b/c I was having the exact same issue. I need to RMA my H100 anyway for the noise it makes, but this opened my eyes on the heat issue I was having.
