Computer wont power on; motherboard lights are on - Page 3

Hoping that the PSU is the problem; as I won't have to drain my loop in order to replace it. Still, it's a bit weird that I'm able to jump start it and have the fans spinning, but it's not enough to turn on my computer.

PSU was not the culprit, it seems. But it seems to just power on, and then turn off after 2 seconds. My guess is that there is something shorting it.

I took the motherboard out and I'll be taking it to a friend's place (he has a air cooler for the CPU). I'll be running some tests.

Tested the Mobo on air. It works fine and starts up alright; however, I didn't have video cards in it. Just wanted to see if it will start.

I put it back in the case, and now, it wont power up again. With the new PSU, it powers up for 1 second and then shuts off. With the old one, it doesn't power up at all. I"m guessing there is something cause the short, but I just don't know what. I've tightened all the mobo standoff screws and yeah, I just have no clue right now.

I'm just not sure what the problem is.

Are you using a backplate for your heatsink? Check for metal/metal contact.

are the GPU s seated properly? Do you get the blue screen of death, blank screen, or reboots?

The computer wont turn on at all. Don't think it's my GPU because even if I disable the PCI-E slots (mobo feature), the computer still wont turn on.

I'll try changing my CPU backplate. I have a feeling that the sticky material that was used may be too thin since I ripped it off directly from my old mobo.

Fixed it. Apparently, the sticky tape was extremely thin and allowed for some metal contact. Replaced the backplate with the one from my H80 and it now turns on.

Thank you so much.

Turns out that one of the video cards is dead....

I suppose this is the hard way of learning to bench your stuff first before putting it under water. Either way, I'll just return it to the store. I'm contemplating if I even need a second card, anyway.
