I might give B&H a look, no any local stores at boston?
Oh, there are local stores, but you're paying MSRP (or damn near it) + 6.25% tax. Depending on where you go in town there are a few places:

The Camera Co in Fanueil Hall is OK. Sam's the mgr (younger guy) and he works there with his father. Nice enough guy, pretty knowledgeable, but his selection on Canon stuff was dwindling the last time I was in, and he has to charge a premium as he has a shop in Fanueil Hall. If you're coming from the side away from the water, it's on the right side of Faneuil Hall, downstairs (in the cellar). There are signs.

A short distance (walking) away is Downtown Crossing. Bromfield Camera is around there and I've heard OK things but I haven't been in there since I really got back into photography.

This is the most incorrect thing in your post, although the rest of it is pretty awful as well.

The problem I see with that lens is that even when you are shooting at the lowest range (18mm) your aperature is still very small (f/3.5). The camera will not be able to collect much light for the picture if you are using a short shutter speed. To compensate for this you could leave the shutter open longer, but then you have to hold the camera and the object you are photgraphing very still to keep the picture from being blurry.

You do know what he is on a budget. He can't just fork over $800+ for constant f2.8 zoom lenses. Not everybody needs to shoot at the max aperture either. *sigh*

That 75-300mm is a terrible lens. The 55-250mm is a much better one overall.

too general of a statement.

the kit lens that came with the canon 40d (28-135) was a decent lens, so is the 24-105L that comes with the 5d2. Even the 18-50 which comes with the rebel isnt that bad. sure its a little slow at the long end, but at 18mm its only 1/2 a stop slower then fast zoom lenses (24-70L, 16-35L, etc).

your statement should have read "As a general rule of thumb the lens that comes in the box with the camera is slow"

So I guess I should just get the package with the bag and extra batteries then, This. So any recomendations on lens I should get?

55-250mm

Look for used or refurbished. When buying used, inspect the lens very carefully.
