$850 budget, HAVE AT 'ER! - Page 3

i would save for the 7900 Gto... if you can... and pair it with the Core 2.
Thing is the Ram and CPU in the Allendale Rig just totally destroy the opty setup... the 7600 would be a huge bottleneck
The Opty is outdone CPU to CPU by the Allendale 110% PLus this Core 2 setup is totally future proof!
Also you can get a Tsunami for cheap on ebay, and put the whole thing together like this:

Mobo: Gigabyte DS3 145$
CPU: Core 2 Duo E6300 185$
Ram: Gskill 178$
GPU: 7900GTO 250$
PSU : Hiper 580: 99$
Case: Thermaltake Tsunami 80$
HSF: TTBT 50$
Total: 987 Plus Shipping =~1000$
With a little extra saving (one or two paychecks) you could be putting together a killer rig!
Sorry for fitting the cliche of making ppl spend more though...

read your edit stargate... very informative and answered one of my main concerns ^_^

Well if you cant afford a Conroe system as it can be rather expensive as motherbaords are pricey and so are things such as DDR2 RAM have you not thought of perhaps a Dual core AMD and then you can keep your current RAM. Perhaps an X2 or Opteron will serve you well. Conroe isnt exactly a must have. I would have to say an Opteron 165 is a great buy.

To me, this seems like an overkill for your grandparents pc (unless they are heavy gamers which I....doubt). Why are you building them such a good pc if all they will be doing is using email, internet, word and at a stretch solitaire

Forgive me if I misread your first post but that is how I see things...

Lol wow, really sorry for my bad wording... I'm basically giving them my current comp in my specs, minus the parts unecessary for what they do(a rage 128 instead of a x1600, a 20gb hdd, the 512mbs of ram in the spec, etc)
I'll be sure to edit that....

On another thought, after reading this: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29248
ive decided not to go with this powersupply after all... any recommendations for a similar psu?

yeh sure, an OCZ Gamexstream 600W or 700W if you can afford it. its a VERY good psu! OCZ, choose either of the 2, 700W is best if you can afford it

also the build you came up with in your first post seemed to be pretty good

get the ram you mentioned in your ram thread, and you will have a killer rig!
