hmm it might support 2x7900GTO's but then again, i would just get 1 GTO then get a DX10 card next year when they are cheaper

this psu should run a 8800GTS, but i dont think it would run a 8800GTX

Alright, you guys, at the moment, concept can not afford a Conroe system, at least not a complete one. Let's try AMD *oh noes! AMD! But it's not the fastest anymore!* Yes, yes, I know. But it's now dirt cheap, and we could make a pretty kick-ass system out of it.

Opteron 165 - $170
DFI LP nF4-D (not Ultra-D) - $85
RAM: 1GB Ballistix DDR500 - $120
PSU: Sunbeam NUUO 550W - $75
HDD: WD 160GB SATA - $54
VGA: 7900GTO - $250
Cooling: Artic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro - $30
Case - whatever you wnat, ~$40-50

Maybe re-use your current RAM and optical drives? That would bring the cost down quite a bit, too.

Well, re-using his current RAM lets us bump him up to an Ultra-D, and a better case... maybe we could also use those HDDs? Recycling parts FTW!

If you want a better PSU than the one you originall were looking at, I've heard good things about the Sunbeam NUUO PSUs. Same with Fortron FSPs, and as always PC P&C are the best but expensive. Antec NeoHE are also rated at 50 deg C, same as PC P&C.

Also, be weary of any nvidia northbridges, specifically the nforce4, as I have heard it can limit overclocks significantly versus ones such as the intel 975x. (I am not sure about nvidia's 590 northbridge, so I won't comment on it.) But if you can't afford more than the nforce4 northbridge, the SLI capability (after modding) is a plus. And if by NF4 you didn't mean that it had an nForce 4 northbridge, then I apologize for wasting your time with this part of the post!

nice build, but i would go for 2GB Ram, 1GB sounds good because its cheap, but it just gets annoying after a while...

I have 1 gig and I can run pretty much everything maxed out. This way, he can save a bit of money, and get more RAM later.

Killa to answer your earlier question about Conroe+7600GT vs. Opteron+7900GTO in just gaming performance the Opteron and 7900GTO will have much more performance than the other setup. My 7900GTO in my rig scores over 9000 in 3dmark05 and that is with no overclock on my processor or card and the processor you are getting is considerably better than mine. Even a volt modded 7600GT can't score that highly in 3dmark05.
