MPH (Mile Per Hour)? Yea it is... I'd never personally want to go 100 MPH consistently down a road like someone above talked about. Very slim chance you could react to something. People have a hard enough time driving 55 - 70 MPH, let alone 100 MPH. Not to mention the condition people's cars are in. Most people only get oil changes.

Anyways, $10 billion? Is this really worth it?

Investment in infrastructure = usually worth it.

Hopefully rest of America follows suit.

You still have to be careful though; we almost nailed a cow at 85mph when driving out to Carlsbad once. Hit the brake so hard we fishtailed and everyone flew forward.

Yeah exactly. There are pretty firm safety reasons for the speed being higher in rural areas.

Anyway, check this out which also happened in TX:
Quote:
On May 9th, I was driving on south Interstate 45 from Dallas to Houston at 5 in the morning. It was pitch black outside and as I came over a small hill in the road, there were 6 cattle standing across the freeway. I was traveling 65-70 miles an hour and I did not have time to react and swerve away from the cows. I hit and killed 3 of the cows.

That guys F-150:

375

You guys were lucky! Trucks like the newer F-150s are built with rigidity in mind and come with fully boxed frames, I couldn't have imagine hitting three 1000lb+ cows in a Minivan at 80Mph+.

I remember when I lived in Montana a while back and all the speed limit signs were replaced with "reasonable and prudent". You could see people pushing their station wagons and minivans as fast as they could go. Good times. Needless to say it didn't last long as I think the highway death toll doubled and speed limits were enacted again. Bullet trains are awesome.
