To be fair, TX has spectacular roads. Have you ever driven in Oklahoma? They have got to be the worst roads in the Union. Compared to TX they look like third world. Just abyssal, pock-marked stretches as far the eye can see laying in wait to ruin cars. So when I hear people starting to wax poetic about how taxes go to roads and blah blah blah, I want to lose it. Clearly, someone is taking that earmarked cash and throwing it down a hole somewhere. If I could get decent roads at a cheaper price, I couldn't give a rat's behind if they were foreign. As it is, the only well-maintained roads are the turnpikes.

High-speed rail doesn't work in the US because of ..Subdivisions....No street planning..roads just meander..houses
crammed in wherever they can fit them.Now if there had been some planning..like..making streets go through and run
North-South and East-West, it may would be viable.Unfortunately..This is not the case.

HS Rail could work. What do you mean exactly by no street and road planning? I assure you all road system construction is very well planned. Grid systems are preferable for small cities and the like but have issues as the system scales up. Most places in the world are not set on a grid pattern at all where these rail systems already exist. Rail systems should stretch across long distances between places not run around towns meaning it takes you there and you get off and find another transport mechanism. The reason we don't have high speed rail is because it is not something thought of as transportation for people in the US and current funding mechanisms are not in place to fund the rail system or the additional infrastructure that is needed to go with it (ie.. subways, buses, taxis, etc..)

Autobahn is a very complex system
First off the license test in Germany costs 1500 euro and is not a joke like the American one.
The laws are also much more strict and have strict punishments for cutting people off etc.
Autobahn simply means freeway or Highway
The autobahn you're reffering to are the ones between towns, they are two or three lanes each side, the left 2 being high speed 120+km which is 70+ Mph (people there use common sense and usually drive at 90-110) But keep in mind that german cars are very heavy and are made to handle high speed with ease and stability.

The merging lane, also known as the slow lane, is only for merging trafic and large trucks. Also, germany does not have pickup trucks, as the cargo will fly out in the autobahn. There are many reasons we can not have autobahn-like speed. I personally would not trust americans with the Autobahn. The german people have something nationally instilled. Our state and federal government are quite stupid in the sense it doesn't allow us to make descisions as a nation on things like this.
For instance, In Los Angeles, where we suffer from HEAVY traffic, the limit will never be over 65, even though the freeways are 6-7 lanes on each side, we could use higher speed, but LA is not like texas or kansas where you can fly off the highway into a field, you will be promptly colliding with a building. ETC.
Germany's autobahn highways are also built in the most remote stretches of land between cities, to avoid property damage and the possible extra loss of human life.


Anyways, in a large and flat state like texas, a high speed train would be quite beneficial to transport. But 80MPH is a bit primative. Trains in the crowded cities of europe safely go 90-120
