Gigabyte X79-UD5 headache..... - Page 2

Are these boards any good running stock or are they chock full of problems and bugs?
Yes, they are just fine at stock and completely fine overclocked as well! Just the issues mentioned here are BIOS related and I'm sure they'll correct those once they have time to test and fix!

No problems here at all with them, just affirming some BIOS glitches for the OP is all I was trying to do, no real problems here with these boards! thumb.gif

But this is overclock.net. Why wouldn't you overclock?? And when you do, that vtt bug will rear its head and kick your butt.

I do overclock! thumb.gifbiggrin.gif

That Vtt bug ONLY happens when you have BSOD or freeze, and then you know it's coming and can easily correct it with one click in easytune or the BIOS. Then, once your massive OC is stable, you wont ever have to worry about the Vtt moving anyway, because you wont have freezes or BSOD's anyway - right? biggrin.gifthumb.gif

No problems here with it, just noticed it happens is all! Once you are stable at any overclock it does not matter as it only happens with unstable settings, so once you find stability you'll be all set.

I'm sure they will fix this soon though, probably just got behind with the Z77 release and all the P67/Z68 UEFI conversion work. They are great at fixing BIOS issues, you know they'll sort it out once they have a chance thumb.giftongue.gif

It wasn't that easy with my ud3. Sometimes it would stick, most of the time it wouldn't. Often on a cold boot, it would loop because endlessly till I reset and reloaded the profile, hoping it will boot. When that failed, it would loop some more till I reset to default and started over. I would have burned this board had I not the ability to just return it. Which I did, just today few hours ago. Good riddance.

Sounds like you were not as stable as you might have thought, and / or plus you may not have knew the easy way to work around the issue - like you should now, by the methods I mention on page one.

Sorry you had such hassles with your UD3!! I'm doing a review on a UD3, and have not had any issues related to this. I noticed it happened and sent in a report was all, it was not affecting my overclocks, stability, or booting, ect.

Sorry to hear you had to return your board!! Hope you still have faith in Gigabyte boards, they are very nice and strong overclockers. And they usually do keep up with BIOS issues such as this fairly frequently, I'm actually surprised they've let this one go on as long as they have - but I do know how busy they are so I understand not everything on every board can get fixed at once.

It's not a bad overclock, and even if it were, I'd expect any board to perform it's job without becoming a detriment to its sole purpose. Anyways i would fine a decent overclock, run an hour of prime then shutdown for the night. I come back in the morning and the board just boot loops. Awesome. It doesn't matter about a trick or not when the board on its own is incapable of doing it's job of keeping the voltages where I want them to be, crash or no crash. This has been the most infuriating board I've ever used.

I thought this 3820 chip I had was a bad clocker. It would not go past 4.8ghz, sad apples. With an open box RIVE, same chip is running 5ghz with less volts than the ud3 ran at 4.8. Now that I have a stable platform, I can work on lowering voltages and fine tuning the board to see what the chip can really do. UD3 = 240, open box RIVE = 300, not bad.

Was there anything missing or damaged with your open box RIVE? I was thinking about getting one but I've seen some threads that made me think twice.

It came in a white box, and was missing only the io shield which really bugged me in an OCD way. You can get replacement shields for 10 bucks off ebay, but still grrr. But for the price... it's still a helluva deal for me.

Woot, upto 5.1ghz now.
