Diamonds have been used (they're just another form of carbon like graphene).

However, production costs, infrastructure, and experience are no where near capable..... the same issues exist with graphene or any other material. Engineers have decades of cumulative knowledge about silicon and hundreds of billions of dollars worth of equipment specialized for silicon so it will take time to transition to any new material.

There has been a demand for graphene for over a decade now.

Price will not drop unless there are scalable production processes. The process to produce graphene are still immature. So demand itself will not help price to decrease much in the short-run as it is supply constricted.

Graphene will not debut in commercial high-processor chips. It will debut in relatively simplistic chips for a number of years before you see an attempt to get something so complex as an x86 CPU.

You mean the interconnect between transistors?

It does not make much sense to do it between the transistors because it adds an unnecessary layer of complexity for minimal benefit. The primary source of leakage is not in the wiring but transistors. The other benefit of graphene is faster switching which would not be utilized.

The resistance of copper is going to become too great. It's not necessary now of course, but years down the road as silicon reaches its limits, it may become useful.
