I need help with my fan configurations.

Thread Starter
I'm working on my HTPC. I have the Silverstone GD05, 3x Cougar 120mm PWM fans, 2x Xigmatek 80mm fans and this fan controller: Sunbeamtech fan controller

My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H. It has 2x 4 pin (1 being for the CPU) fan headers and 1x 3 pin.

Using speedfan I cannot get my fans to slow down or speed up based on the temps of the PC. I have tried multiple configurations and my fans "seem" to always spin at 99% when plugged in to the mobo. Right now I'm having to run 2 of my Cougars and the 2 Xigmatek's off of the small fan controller in order to keep them from spinning up so fast. This is a HTPC and I want it to be fairly quiet unless I'm gaming, then I don't care.

The cougars themselves are quiet but I can hear the air movement from 12+ feet away. I actually heard it over my movie during the whisper scenes. Very annoying.

I need to add this is the only PC I've had issues using Speedfan on. I use it on 5 others and it works great. I don't know if I'm missing something or what.

I'd even be open to another PCI slot fan controller that could control multiple fans. The one I currently have is set up for two fans but I'm running 4 off of it. I don't know if that will cause issues in the long run or not.

I do not have another 5.25" slot, my only one is being used by my Bluray.

Every time I've used speedfan on a computer, I need to go under the Advanced tab in Configuration, and set all the PWM's to Manual. Then everything works. It's a very powerful program, got my system set up to control different fans based on their location and the parts they cool.

Check your config out and make sure the PWM mode is set to manual, I bet that's the culprit.

I'll give that a look. I went ahead and ordered this: PWM Splitter. Hopefully with that I can run all 3 fans off of my one spare PWM fan header.

See if there's a control in the bios for them, this might be overwriting the speedfan settings.

I tried disabling the settings in the BIOS. It had no effect, actually my CPU no longer adjusted speed so I set it back to BIOS controlled PWM.

In speedfan I do not see any options for PWM mode, I only see the fans being listed as PWM. My 3 intake fans are stuck at 1400rpm. No matter what I do it will not change. These fans should spin between 800-1500 so it's very close to max.

Forgot to mention I installed the 5 fan PWM splitter. So all 3 fans are connected to 1 PWM header on the mobo.

Ok under the Advanced tab I see:

PWM1
PWM2
PWM3

My choices are:
On/Off
Software Controlled
On/Off
SmartGuardian

I've tried all of these and I saw no difference.

Edit: I dug up an old post that said to use Software Controlled. I tried that but all fans run at full speed now.

There's no manual?

On mine, I go Config > Advanced, and select the "INTEL XXXXX CHIP" or whatever from the list, and there is an option for Manual under the PWM mode. Then I can use the "advanced fan control" where you can change the speed curve and tie fans to different temps, etc etc.

But if you're not seeing a manual, that probably means you won't have much luck, unless you find something in the BIOS.
