[MacRumors] Thinner 15-Inch MacBook Pro Coming with Retina Display and USB 3.0?

Following the appearance of a benchmark potentially signaling a near-term launch for Apple's much-rumored thinner MacBook Pro, 9to5Mac reports that it has received specific information on the new 15-inch MacBook Pro's design from a source who has handled prototype casings and other components.
Quote:
In line with previous rumors, the machine is said to include a "Retina" display, a development that has been rumored for some time and for which evidence has been showing up in builds of OS X Lion and Mountain Lion. According to the report's source, OS X will simply offer a set of resolution quality options for the new machine ("such as big, small, or optimal") to allow users taking advantage of this new "HiDPI" support to select their desired combination of sharpness and resolution.
Source

It'd be great if they're able to push out 'retina' Macs so soon. I hope the same is true of the iMacs.

Just an FYI for those that will be concerned about resolution vs. graphics performance, keep in mind the high DPI (resolution) virtually eliminates the need for antialiasing. With a higher level GPU, these will still 'game' well, even though that's not what these machines will be built for.

So, Retina display just means higher res? I'm not quite sure I understand.

Let's all hope that this kind of high PPI/res makes its way to all products in the near future. I am really hoping to see this in full size monitors as well for an affordable price for once.

Isn't retina display a term apple coined that means the pixels are so small the human eye can't see them?

About time. If I were to spend £800 and up on a laptop I expect more than 1366x768.

The displays are higher resolution, but they don't provide more work space like you would normally get from a higher resolution. Instead, the resolution is raised while keeping things on the screen the same size, thus increasing the sharpness and quality of what is on the screen. That is what a "retina" display is in a nutshell..
