Even with 1280 x 800 on this 14" screen I can not even see the pixels.(normal viewing distance )
I would agree, if they were calling 1920x1200 a triumph. They're aiming higher than that. (I hope..)

I doubt they'll tolerant much loss on battery life. It's Apple we're talking about.

Not into the new MBP's, with their form factor. But iMacs get the top-of-the-line mobile GPUs, and if they stuck with AMD again, they'll get the 7970m, which is a total beast.

For once a thread about assle that I actually like! This should make higher res screens/monitors more common and we'll move on from the 1080x1920 standard soon'nuff.

That puzzle game on dashboard will look SICK!

Yeah Retina will eliminate the need for AA but its going to take 2 x GPU power to drive extra resolution.

Intel released a road map for future screen sizes it will support, very similar to this.

Im all for this, My iPad 3 and iPhone 4S screen are amazing, and to have a 27 or 30" screen at 4k would be just as amazing, if only IPS and 120Hz could also be thrown in there...

Even if you hate Apple, the nice thing about this rumor if it pans out is that other manufacturers might finally stop shipping ****ty screens with their laptops. It's pretty depressing that notebook reviewers do somersaults whenever they get a 1440x900 resolution while my cheaper iPad has a 9" screen with a 2048x1536 resolution.

IPS would be fantastic. I have an iMac which has an IPS display and a Macbook Air which does not and the off-angle performance of the Air's screen is pretty much the only thing I wish was better on that laptop (it's still a much nicer screen than what is found in most other laptops). I got the 27" iMac so I could use it to watch video from a distance (say, from my couch or while lying in bed) so the viewing angles are great, but with a laptop it would be nice to have wider viewing angles so I don't have to adjust the tilt angle of the screen every time I move my head.

Rumours point that the new Macbook Pros will use Nvidia GT 650Ms. They have very similar performance to the 7770Ms though.

I think any reasonable person would game on the half resolution (xres/2 * yres/2) with current mobile GPU solutions. Otherwise, gaming would be infeasible in most cases.

That is what a "retina" display is in a nutshell..

The "sizing" of items on the display is implemented entirely in software. As for the hardware, it simply is a high resolution LCD panel.

The only exception being Battlefield 3 & Metro 2033. Hardware acceleration hardly requires 3D clocks, so most of the GPU will likely sit idle anyway.

However, more is better and Haswell GT3 looks to deliver with 100% increase in gaming performance
That's good to know as that's what we'll be getting in the MacBook Air and likely the 13 inch MacBook Pro as well. Is that for desktop CPUs or mobile CPUs though?

Here's a chart: notebookcheck

There's no frame rates listed for the 7750/70 or 7850/70 yet so it's hard to say. I'd guess that the 7870 would be around 70% of the GTX 675 but I could be drastically wrong tongue.gif

It'll require anywhere from 2x up to 4x more power, and in some instances even more. Worst case scenario though is to run the game at the non Hi-DPI native resolution.

Mmm, I hope they stay with AMD in the iMac though since the 7970M's da bomb.
