shellshocker today - OCZ Vertex 3 VTX3-25SAT3-120G (question)

Hey everyone,

So I'm buying parts right now for my rig, and this popped up on newegg today. It seems like a good price and drive to my noobish eyes, but I was wondering if I could get some feedback from you folks.

I will be using an SSD as my boot drive + a few games. If you folks do not recommend this drive, could you suggest something else?

I would buy this one before the Vertex 3 any day of the week!

It's an excellent price, and an excellent drive. Purchased mine around Black Friday (or was it Cyber Monday?) and the "on sale" price back then was $140. If I didn't have my current Vertex 3, you bet I'd be jumping all over this deal.

Definitely pick up this drive. If this is the first time you plan on going for an SSD, be prepared to have your mind blown with the much faster I/O.

Check out Sean Webster's guide here on OCN on how to optimize your SSD.

Plenty of naysayers will bash OCZ for their Sandforce firmware debacle, but I've never had any issues with any Vertex drive since their first generation release. If you do get errors, there's nothing a firmware update can't fix.

They don't deserve to get bashed for taking 6 months to find the problem meanwhile they blamed the user for the error? Sorry but no. It's be one thing to admit to a problem and say you're doing your best to find it. It's another to deny responsibility and tell your user base that it's their fault they have a bad drive when it's not.

Oh and I should mentioned as well, none of their firmware updates resolve all problems. That much has been documented on Anandtech.
