Turning HT Off, you're essentially using it as a i5. Sorta defeats the purpose of buying a i7. tongue.gif

BattleField 3 I believe uses all threads.

Just look at a 2500k vs 2600k review, if the difference is larger than 5%, then Hyperthreading's kicking in.

Let's be more concise....

Virtually all games are multi-threaded.... it just depends on how many threads and how interdependent they are.

BF3 for examples generates 40+ threads.... BUT these threads can all run on about 4 cores at most.

Here's BF3 running on my PC... 34 threads at the moment:
345

To be concise, no applications "uses" HyperThreading. That is not to say some applications benefit from HyperThreading.

HyperThreading is a method of presenting more virtual cores to the OS. Games have no concept of this. They just ask for resources and the OS provides them to it.

Not necessarily since there is a L3 cache (6MB vs 8MB) difference as well. There is also a clock difference if this is not controlled.

Thank you so much for the full explanation!

I don't know if keep the HT on or disabile it, because my i7-920 at 4ghz needs 1,295v with HT off
And 1,343v with HT on

So I was considering if HT doesn't Give any benefit for gaming to disable it and keep lower consumption or try to increase the clock to 4,2 with that voltage
