Any news on how the GTX 670 compares to a GTX 580??

I have one reserved at my local computer store but im not sure wheather to put my GTX 580 on ebay and go for it or keep what i have. They are £30 cheaper than anywhere else at £349 and i can collect from up the road. Other retailers want £372 + Postage.

Here are the benchmark. http://goo.gl/02MEd
Since you don't really need the 670, I'd suggest waiting for a bit and seeing how prices drop. Frankly, the 670s aren't even available. Out of stock in most places. I bought a Gigabyte OC 670 because it was same as reference card at newegg, but when i looked at other sites it was like $50 more and stuff so just wait for a bit.

Well i have managed to reserve one and i can get it £30 cheaper than many other places which is why im asking before its sold and they dont get any more in! smile.gif Its an Asus Direct CU II GTX 670. I could sell GTX 580 for around £220, i'd just have to spend about £100 to upgrade.

I don't think its necessarily worth it. A 670 is faster but not by a ton and definitely not $410 worth of faster.

My advice would be wait till next Christmas and enjoy your GTX 580 till then.

might get the new gpu's then. And it would be more worth it.

I dont think you will see much of a difference with your current monitor. If you had a 120hz or higher res monitor than you would definitely benefit. But for 1080P and 60zh refresh rate, I would not do it. You max out most games with the 580 already. I know my TFIII GTX580 maxes out BF3 at 2x AA, but I havent checked the GPU usage on it though. It seems to me like you are pretty concerned about that. I wouldnt worry about it too much, as you said you are seeing 60-100FPS, which is very respectable. My 2c...

some fair points guys. My GTX 580 is a great card i just wondered if for £100 it was worth getting. It cripples me to think if i sell now id lose the best part of £150 but its going to be worth even less as time goes on. I wonder when nvidias next chip will be released? If its not for 1 year + im not sure my GTX 580 is going to cut it until then.

I can max everything out now with good fps. Crysis 2 dips to around 40 in intensive action..its more future proofing that comes into my mind.

Definitely. I said it wouldnt be worth it but that was strictly from a value and performance per dollar standpoint. But a GTX670 is still a faster card and a pretty good upgrade and if youve got the cash to spare, go for it. Im all for chronic and needless upgrading. Fun new toys is what makes this hobby as much fun. A GTX670 is a 10-25% increase depending on the game over the GTX580 so itll be a noticeable gain in performance. If I had $410 lying around, Id have one on its way to me right now.
