[Q] ASUS GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II Top - Page 3

The TOP version's core is clocked 157 MHz than the regular version to 1137 MHz. From what I've seen, OC'ing the core to 1137 should be no problem on your regular card, but can't say that with absolute certainty.

Honestly, I would first find out what the max OC is on the card you have. If you're not happy with it, I would return it and wait for the TOP model if you have the option to return and can wait. It should only be another week or 2 until the TOP card is available. But if you reach close to 1300 MHz on the core or even higher, I wouldn't bother because you would gain nothing by swapping.

Given the non TOP version came first, it might be that GPU chip is just not binned so oc potential is pot luck. The TOP version will have GPU chips binned to achieve the stated oc. There is no guarantee which would ultimately oc the best.

For me it all depends on the price delta i.e. if the TOP version is only slightly more.... The key figure seems to be the GPU boost clock i.e. how far it will go when the oc is actually needed. The TOP version is 16% better. The Windforce is 8% better. The game benchmarks comparision on HardOCP is quite insightful.

In your situation I would use GPU-z check the gpu asic quality is around 80% (my subjective optimium power consumption vs. oc potential) to verify these are not binned particularly weak chips. The lower the % the more voltage leakage and therefore higher voltage needed vs. the higher the % the less overclock headroom but voltages do not need to be increased so high. If asic ok then o/c to the TOP version, if all is well you have a good card. Having said that it might be a bit tricky to oc as lots of parameters and info is a bit sparse.

My GTX560TI (DirectCU II non-TOP) is clocked to the TOP speeds and beyond. Also, going from a GTX280 to this regardless of the slightly lower clock speed you're going to be flying! And finally, in the spirit of OCing and OCN, buying the cheaper version and making it go as fast as the more expensive version is quite the spirit of things!

I pre ordered a TOP version of the 670. The difference was like 10$, which is quite irrelevant. I'm really not convinced there's any difference in terms of binning between the two cards; by guess is that ASUS is just charging 10$ to O/C the card for you. Oh well, it's that much I won't have to do tongue.gif

For me it's definitely quite awesome! I was tempted by the 7970 DCII at some point, but I was hesitant as it seemed to have a high rate of failure. The 670 TOP just seems to hit a sweetspot; it's faster than a stock 7970, more silent, and 2 slots instead of three. biggrin.gif

Just got my non TOP 670 DCII today and must say asus engineers must of been having bad day when desingning this cooler. & pcb kombo.

There is big problem with cards pci-e power connections & heatsink. PSU cables has those "claws" that locks the connector to card, and with this there is not enough space for it to go in freely beetween cooler and connector which then makes heatsink to bend awfully each time you put connector on to card or take it off.

Some vendors sell it for one reason or another. Don't think it's just Uk.
