Raid 0 - CPU impact question

Thread Starter
Does using the built-in support for RAID on a motherboard put more load on the CPU than using a RAID card? Or does the board still do the work? From my understanding only RAIDs that are completely software based (operating system does all the work) put more load on your CPU.

technically the raid configurations that are built on the most motherboards are considered to be software based. There is no dedicated cpu or ram to run the raid processes through so it relies on your system cpu/ram as necessary. Only way to avoid this (fairly minimal resources used) is with a dedicated raid controller with it's own cpu/ram.
