It good enough for a 7870, but I kinda would like 2 of them and not be conserned about it getting close to bottle necking. Lets see new CPU and another AMD HD 7870. OR.....Screw it, I tired of waiting, just get an Intel mobo and CPU. How can you make good gaming GPUs and make Marginal CPUs to run them?

15% jump from 4ghz is 4.6 ghz. me wants.

I will believe it when I have it in my sausage fingers..and it nets good performance...but not until.
AMD dropped the ball last year.I'm notsomuch a happy camper.

They'll probably start producing in september and we'll see them in December on shelves. AMD's projections are off for like 2 years now. If it was a strong CPU, it would have a strong and clear Release date when we are in the supposedly production period.

piledrivers are just overclocked bulldozers with less head room for overclocking

LOL you have NO way of knowing that. Considering the higher clocks stock and lower tdp's on the same arch, I'm guessing they'll go higher.
As for how it compares to bulldozer, theres an article on toms i think where they compare the trinity cpu side to a 2 module 8150 @ same clocks. Shows decent improvements at clock for clock, nothing earth shattering. I trust that more then the test on an engineering sample.

@ Tweeky

That's not true. From the only available Piledriver test:

"Let’s start with the Piledriver architecture ... Our per-clock cycle testing suggests that the revised design, as it’s implemented on Trinity, is as much as 15% faster than Bulldozer ... It’s better than Bulldozer ... "

Question:

witch chip will be faster a bulldozer 8150 @ 4.5 MHz or a piledriver 8350 @ 4.5 MHz ?

I'm curious to know what temps on the 8350 would be and what the limit is. I can't imagine the 8350 being as cool at stock 4.0ghz as my 8120 is at stick 3.1. That right there is less room for overclocking, still...

piledriver core is not much better than the bulldozer core in terms of performance. It has some tweaks, and better power characteristics but that is about it.

look for 5-10% bump in performance over bulldozer at the same clock speed.

Overall, don't expect to be wowed by this chip. That will happen with Steam Roller. Which has major architectural fixes.
