[No Bug] <other> URL option not working in the RTE

Reproducibility:

Yes.

 

Repro Steps:

I tried to link something using the <other> option in the URL link section. This is the link:

irc://irc.synirc.net/chimpchallenge

 

Expected:

When the post is submitted, a user should be able to click the link (and for this one in particular, the appropriate channel should open in an IRC client if you have one installed).

 

However, it's highlighted text, but there's no link. Here's the example:

Not something we can fix.  That is a native feature of the editor, not something we added.

It doesn't explain what that protocol really does, but since it is a protocol and not a program launcher I do not imagine that it has any way of automagically opening whatever unspecified 3rd party client there is installed on your computer.

Is there any documentation available? What would work, if irc:// doesn't?

For the bolded section, I just mean that if you paste the link into your browser, if you have an IRC client installed, it automatically launches.
