930 to 3570k?

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out if it is worth upgrading from my sig rig to a Ivy bridge system, i'll be keeping my GPU as is for now.

Essentially i'm looking at going from an i7-930 @ 4.2 HT on to a i7-3570k (most likely as i probably can't afford a 3770k as its an extra $120 in Australia).

Current build is:
MB: Gigabyte X58a - UD3R
CPU: i7-930
RAM: Corsair XMS3 CL7-1333

The build i've planned is:
MB: Asrock Z77 extreme4
CPU: i7-3570k
RAM: G.Skill Ares 2133 8G Kit (2x4Gb)

Is there any point in doing this?

I disagree. Granted, it's not like a miracle will have happened and your new build won't be twice as fast, but I reckon there will be SOME improvement.
1333 MHz RAM before, 2133 MHz RAM after. An old (with all due respect) 930 before, a brand new 3570K after. BIOS OCing options before, UEFI OCing options after. PCI-E 2.0 before, PCE-E 3.0 after. SATA II support before, SATA III support after.

The improvements won't be huge, but yes, I think you will notice some improvement.

I made the switch from a 930 -> 3770k and couldn't be happier. UEFI, SATA3, less power, and the real kicker less heat did it for me. My 930+5870 was like a space heater in my room without much overclocking. The 3770k+7970 only increased my room temp by 5F as opposed to 15F. I think a lot of my performance gains however were the 5870->7970. SATA 3 for the M4 is also a nice gain (not sure what you are running on this front).
