Problem with DX79SI Motherboard (Overclock)

Thread Starter
I recently bought an Intel DX79SI Extreme mobo, and loaded it with a 3930K processor. The OS I am running is Windows 7 (64-bit).

I tried overclocking the CPU to 4GHz, but it does not seem to want to work. Everything boots up fine, but there are 2 problems:

1) The CPU speed in the Win 7 "My Computer" properties, still shows as 3.2GHz.
2) CPU-Z shows my CPU speed as 1200MHz, and the multiplier at 12.

Thinking a power saving thing might be going on, I disabled SpeedStep in the BIOS (the latest), but I still have the problem. I tried the 'Overclock Assistant', but I still have the problem.

Is there something else I need to set up here to make this work? Could it be that my mobo or CPU is defective?

Any input would be greatly appreciated --- thanks in advance!

It's normal, if the cpu is idle it will downclock to 1200mhz right away. Put some load / pressure / work on the cpu and start up CPU-z again and you should see the right clock smile.gif
