2012 TC Changes Discussion #3 - SBe In i7 categories

Thread Starter
This is the third of 5 TC discussion threads about proposed changes. This thread is for discussing the possibility of allowing SBe into i7-1. Particularly 3930k's and 3960x's.

The performance of a 3930k could potentially be paired with a 2500k/x6 (or i7-920) to make the teams fair.
I figure 3820's should be let in automatically as they're no more powerful than a 2600k.

I'd have to see more numbers on this, would 3930/3960k's be doing bigadv? If that were the case I would almost have to say the 2500k, or whatever would have to be doing SMP.

G3RG, let's disect some numbers on this. It sounds like it would work. So, we need PPD for these chips.

Down the road, I think it would be worth looking to expand a category for chips like these if we get enough to fill a category since they really are the elite chips in TC. But, again, not right now. I would fully support that idea though. I think that category would be something that is the most elite in TC, and way worthy of it's own category.

We already have plenty of 3930ks, likely enough to make a category for them already. I counted out 12 of them for you to pm already tongue.gif

I know you said we cant do 7 categories yet because of the stats, but as soon as we can, I think we should. It'd be far easier than trying to balance them into the TC as is.

So here is what we have:

i7 3930K - 5.0-5.3GHz - SS phase change - v7 client/win7 HP - 16GB 1600MHz CL8 - ~65K PPD <--- Not sure what wu this is. We need more SB-E numbers.

and something like this:

2500K, 4900MHz, 4GB 2133MHz 9-10-9-28-1T, 1.54Vcore, integrated GPU, Noctua NH-D14 triple fan, Ubuntu 10.10, CLI, 2.6.35-30

P6097, 28413
P6098, 27443
P6942, 27179
P6945, 26651
P6958, 27035
P6970, 26651
P6971, 26651
P6973, 26913
P6975, 26140
P6978, 26651
P6979, 26394
P6980, 27035
P6981, 27053
P6984, 27302
P6985, 26513
P6987, 27035
P6990, 26259
P6991, 26772
P6994, 26140
P7131, 27943
P7147, 28497
P7165, 27036
P7167, 26293
P7501, 30107
P7504, 27620

Or a 920:

i7-920 - 4.09GHz @1.35v - H80 - 12Gb@1528Mhz 9-9-9-27-1t / P7809 22579ppd Native Ubuntu 10.10*

Or if these are allowed:

3570k - 4.6ghz @ 1.28v
8gb Samsung 30nm 2002mhz 11-11-11-28-1T
H80

Native ubuntu 11.04

6099 - 28017
6098 - 26179
7508 - 32202
7504 - 26704

Against 2 of these:

Ubuntu 11.04 Native.

i7 2600k 4.8GHz with 2133 CAS 9 Memory

p6099 41-43k

p6098 39-41k

p6097 38-40k

The best case scenario with the figures above is: i7 2600k doing about 40k PPD x2=80k against a lack of PPD numbers for SB-E doing 65k and one of these other chips doing about 28k= 93k

So far, I don't like this idea, but I will wait for more data. Here are my thoughts right now. Since we are moving 920's to 2500k/X6, I think 970 and 980 should be removed and added to a speparate category with SB-E. We could look at making one of the i7 categories these right now, and cut out the extra 2600k cat. Again, stats cannot accomidate 7 categories right now, so it is only fair to do one of these 2 things in my opinion so far, or we could cut them all out for now and look to add them to TC in a few months. I want to see more PPD numbers though.

I agree; I feel 13k PPD would be too great of a difference to be competitive.

Yep, I hope that more PPD numbers can be provided so we can make sure if it is, or is not the right moved to make right now.

I am looking for some feedback on the category idea's too when people have some time.

I'm not zodac, but I don't like that idea much. I'd say just wait until we can get a separate category for the hex SB-E's. If you want to let 3820's go head to head with a 2600k, I don't mind that, I just think the hex SB-E's overpower the others a little too much.
I think SB-E 12 core cpu's should be on their own and just include SB-E 8 core with the other i7's. No one in their right mind would do smp on a 3930K.
