In the market for a mousepad

Thread Starter
Right now I'm looking at a number of different companies for a hard surface mousepad that will last. Right now I'm most worried about durability. The Sidewinder X8 tracks on anything, so I'm not that worried about color or print design so long as it looks appealing. I think i've got my budget narrowed to $20 and looking for a conservative size since I'm not sure how large my desk at university is. I read a lot of reviews on Newegg saying the XTracPads hard surfaces (Pro HS and Zoom V2) had construction problems. The Pro HS would wear down after a few months of heavy use (and the hard surface would start peeling off) and the Zoom V2 wouldn't grip hard enough to stay in place. These are the things I'm trying to avoid.

I'm currently thinking about the Steelseries 4HD or the 3HD if they release it soon. I found out about Puretrak in another thread; what do people think of their hard surfaces? They're only $10, so i'm suspicious. Any other suggestions?

i personally use an ICEMAT and hyperglide skates. however i was recently impressed when my sister went to bestbuy and got a pretty big rocketfish mouse pad that has 2 different surface textures. It felt really smooth with her mouse skates.

I haven't ever used a better mousepad than the Steelseries QcK. I've used over 10 mice with it and I still use the mousepad because it simply offers the lowest LOD and it is the smoothest to work on in my opinion.

On my third QcK now, and I have a fourth one in the drawer that I haven't opened (the mini version) so when I go on vacation I can use it.

The QcK is a cloth pad. I know it's popular, but I don't want to have to buy multiple cloth pads when I could have one durable one. I'm thinking the one durable pad would be some hard surface that doesn't stain. I've seen some metal pads, but i'm pretty sure they're all out of my price range.

As for mouse feet, the X8 comes with three sets of it's own, so I don't think they can be replaced by any others.

the rocketfish one at best buy was 20 dollars. it had a lot of surface coverage, was aluminum with a polymer surface. double sided, each side has it's own roughness.

I also use said rocketfish double sided mousepad - one side is hard and rigid/textured and called "control" the flip is VERY smooth and called "speed" exceptionally smooth. Between these two sides it covers everything i could ever want out of a hard mouse pad.

I also have a rocket fish pad. I bought it in 2006. I have since worn the rough side to pretty much smooth but now its just a mobile pad for my laptop mostly. I'd say its durable.
