add more ram now i cant OC

Thread Starter
i just recently added 6 more gigs of ram 3x2gb so now i have 6 sticks before i could OC my rig to 4.2Ghz very easy and was very stable(with just the 6gb i had before) now i cant chage a thing becasue my rig wont even post. but if i leave everything stock its fine.

i have tried so many voltages for the cpu and ram, ram speed and timing settings but nothing. does anyone have any advise for me?

i bought the extra 6gbs because it was well, damn cheap. and i liked have the extra space for Photoshop and drafting programs.

That's generally the trade-off.
You usually lose OC capability when you add more than 2 sticks of RAM.

As you may or may not know, adding more memory stresses the IMC harder which in return increases difficulty in overclocking. I'd recommend resetting the CMOS and re-overclocking as you won't be able to achieve what you had prior because of the added stress to the IMC (you'll require more voltage, etc).

this. you cant cram twice the ram down the same bandwidth and think there will be no trade offs.

You need to increase CPU VTT or QPI/DRAM voltage depending on bios terminology. Essentially it is the voltage for the CPU's memory controller.

Sad but true what everyone else said. My friend crammed every slot with RAM and he couldnt even use Overclock Profile XMP 1600 anymore! Had to use manual overclocking to get 1600
