i have check the mobo here this morning . I think i know the issue which caused ur mobo burned .

According to the picture u posted , u connected the usb connector to the 1394 connector onboard.

please check below 2 pictures , The wire arrangement is different from the color of cover on each kind connectors .

Especially USB is supplied by 5 volt , 1394 is supplied by 12 volt . That is why the fuse of 1394 connector got burned .

cheers ! thumb.gif

Embarrassing mistake.

In the future it may make good sense to use the manual in every build. This is not an uncommon happening in the handful of self-builts I end up servicing because of smoke/fire.

These manufacturers have gone through quite some length to try to simplify assembly with as little confusion as possible ( also through use of the manual ), however the shapes and sizes of some of these connectors is up to different committees, in this case ending this boards life by making the USB header fit the IEEE 1394 header.

It is common issue happened sometimes . Both header is 100% the same .

At least it is not something wrong of hardware layout .smile.gif

My heart sank when I saw the picture, I knew right away what happened. Don't feel too bad, you aren't the only one to make that mistake. I did that on my first build redface.gif, it melted the socket on the motherboard and ruined the connector to the front of my case. Amazingly that old MSI k7 delta islr board is still running today , 9 years later?
The headers on the motherboard should really be made differently to make sure this doesn't happen. In my case , I was just excited and in a hurry to get my new toy put together and running.
Good luck getting it up and running again smile.gif

I felt so compelled to say:

This is hilarious.
I don't know why I find it so amusing, but I'm actually wetting myself with laughter.

I apologise for finding it so funny, I mean no offense!

Infact, just the other day I was helping my Mum's Boyfriend install his new PC, we'd just put everything together (or so we thought), CPU cooler & everything then I noticed the tiny packet of RAM just lying next to all the empty boxes... We forgot to put the RAM in, so we had to take the CPU cooler off (which was annoying due to the ridiculous clip mechanism of the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro rev.2) just to whack the ram in, then we realised that it wouldn't fit in the first slot due to the heatsink of the cooler.

Anyway, the PC was supposed to be "future proof", it can't be if you can't upgrade the RAM, now he'll have to get a new cooler just to fit 4 sticks in, unless he replaces the two he already has with double the memory sticks.

Moving on, that was probably my most embarrassing PC moment, not made a single mistake since then and I hope to keep it that way, and this post has just added to my knowledge of similar looking connectors causing issues when confused, so... really, thanks! Trial and error eh!? Someone's gotta do it!
