Wow,

I didn't even notice it myself.

However, I didn't have any devices plugged into the front panel USBs. Would that still cause an issue? I had all of my USB devices plugged directly into the back I/O.

Oooh man this sucks. So much for warranty. The board is still operational though isn't it? Aside from FireWire? Man give it to asrock for the great service.....and inte process also covering their butt and catching operator error unfortunately rolleyes.gif

I have to say I might go asrock next time though after all the Asus horror stories

Interesting. Curious what they find if this is the case. Maybe a diod failed causing it to blow whatever fuse he mentioned.

Some USB ports share the ground across both ports (the metal housing and ground on the connector). In this case the white firewire wire (Positive voltage) would have linked up with the ground (black wire) possibly causing a short. Nick from ASRock knows the boards better than most, so if it is indeed the firewire fuse that blew out, then it would seem logical that something happened there with that header and your ports.

Do it! It's honestly not that noticeable. Unless you have direct light on it. if it's in a case you can't tell.

This is awesome, my heart sunk when I read that your Asrock board caught on fire, since I just bought one, but now I feel extremely confident.

nice job Nick, good to know you are around here thumb.gif
