[Official] The OCCT Challenge

Thread Starter
Hi fellow OCN overclockers,
devil.gifWelcome to the OCCT Challenge devil.gif

Introduction

The OCCT Challenge is something I have come up with as there is a need to be able to stability test your overclocked rig without having to run it for 12 hours or perform stability tests with multiple different prgrams.

No more grinding your CPU for 12 hours just to prove your rig is stable in a specific stability test - the OCCT Challenge will be able to provide you with a result in less than a couple hours

What's Tested

The OCCT Challenge is not just another CPU stability test, it will put your whole overclocked rig through its paces and stability test everything.

The OCCT Challenge will check the following for stability:
CPU
Memory
GPU(s)
PSU

If your rig passes the OCCT challenge, you can be confident that your rig is stable for daily use thumb.gif

The OCCT Challenge

To pass the OCCT Challenge, you need to perform the following stability tests exactly as outlined, and provide the evidence as outlined. Failure to follow will result in a fail. Only those who have passed the OCCT Challenge by following the exact testing procedure and providing the exact evidence will be added to the OCCT Challenge ladder smile.gif

The OCCT program has 4 tabs:
  1. CPU:OCCT
  2. CPU:LINPACK
  3. GPU:3D
  4. POWER SUPPLY

The OCCT Challenge comprises of stability tests performed with each tab. The required settings for each test is as follows:

OCCT Challenge 1 - The CPU:OCCT Test
Test Type: Automatic
Duration: 0h 35min
Idle periods: 0 min at beginning
.................. 5 min at the end
Test Mode: Large Data Set
Use all Logical Cores: Tick the box
Extras Needed:
  • Notepad open with your OCN name and the OCN url
  • 4x CPUID CPU-Z open to show CPU, Mainboard, Memory and SPD tabs
Here is a screenshot showing everything needed for challenge 1:

AVX Capable Linpack: Leave the box empty
Use all Logical Cores: Tick the box
Extras Needed:
  • Notepad open with your OCN name and the OCN url
  • 4x CPUID CPU-Z open to show CPU, Mainboard, Memory and SPD tabs

Error Check: Leave the box empty
Extras Needed:
  • Notepad open with your OCN name and the OCN url
  • 4x CPUID CPU-Z open to show CPU, Mainboard, Memory and SPD tabs
  • 2x TPU GPU-Z open to show Graphics Card and Sensors tabs

OCCT Challenge 5 - The PSU Test
Test Type: Automatic
Duration: 0h 15min
Idle periods: 0 min at beginning
.................. 5 min at the end
DirectX Version: DirectX10
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
FullScreen: Tick the box
64 Bits Linpack: Tick the box (for Win7 x64 only)
Use all Logical Cores: Tick the box
Extras Needed:
  • Notepad open with your OCN name and the OCN url
  • 4x CPUID CPU-Z open to show CPU, Mainboard, Memory and SPD tabs
  • 2x TPU GPU-Z open to show Graphics Card and Sensors tabs
Here is a screenshot showing everything needed for challenge 5:
occtchallengegpupsurequ.th.png

IMPORTANT
Close OCCT down after each test and wait 5 min between tests to ensure your system has cooled down and all previous min/max values are cleared before you start the next challenge.

Evidence
  1. Once each test has finished running, it will switch to the "monitoring" mode for 5 minutes. While still doing the final monitoring stage and the OCCT has the words "Started - Test Done - Monitoring" displayed, take a screenshot with all the extras I have listed (CPU-Z, GPU-Z, name) displayed and upload all the screenshots.
  2. You should have 5 screenshots showing the test has been done.
  3. Each screenshot needs to be visible and needs to show the monitoring screen so the min and max values can be read and so I can then determine your points.

OCCT Challenge has Extra Challenges

To add a little competition to the OCCT Challenge, each OCN member that passes the OCCT Challenge will be given a score based on points for each challenge. The points given are well balanced, so that members with lower overclocks can challenge those with higher overclocks and potentially get a higher score.

But this is OCN, so there is bonus points for the cooling solution you use and certain overclocks that are reached and shown to be stable wink.gif

Points Guideline for OCCT Challenge 1
  • 1 Point for every Degree C your average CPU core temp is under 100C
  • 5 Bonus Points for air cooled CPU

This looks like its built around Sandy Bridge.. Maybe you should use percentage points instead of degree's and megahertz - this way 1st Gen Intel Core's, Ivy Bridge and AMD can play too smile.gif

For example: Take the maximum manufacturer recommended temperature and find various percentage points.

Good idea. I'll go over the points system a bit to make it more fair. I was actually trying to make it fair for Sb and IB, but forgot about AMD and older Intel CPUs.

It's something I should prolly spend a bit of time on to make it fair.

But the scores are really just to make it a little fun - it's the challenge of completing all the benchmarks to show OCCT stability that this is really for smile.gif
