The Auria looks somewhat clearer/crisper due to the lack of AG coating. In terms of color they are practically identical. I'd say you can see a -tiny- bit of banding on the Auria on a pure gradient. (none on the HP.) Nothing you would notice at all in daily use, even working in Photoshop it wouldn't put me off. I don't see any reason to spend the $ on the HP unless you don't want the glossy finish on the Auria. (Note that I have no idea on screen refresh for gaming - if that is a concern at all.)

Ditto on double-checking the cable. Assuming you are using the one that came with it? What video card are you running? One off-the-wall idea - Microcenter sells a 27" in nearly identical packaging that only does 1920x1080. But then you would have paid $200, not $400.

Have not tried personally, but from what I have read elsewhere people haven't had much luck with overclocking.
