Thinking about getting Quickfire Rapid Browns with keycaps, advice?

Hello forums,

I finally gave in on rubber dome keyboards after getting to try mechanical keyboards. I've decided on Cherry MX Browns for the light tactility feeling. (I mainly play LoL and Starcraft II, not much FPS.)

I initally wanted to buy Leopold Otaku because of it's blank design, but at $110, I think I should just get a CM Quickfire Rapid with custom keycaps.

Now here's my question, are all the keycaps just for the look and I can stick them in any key, like there is no specific order? (I know this sounds stupid.. but I'm just that inexperienced..haha)

The quickfire rapid browns. $80

So if I wanted to get the 39 key caps, ($20) could I stick them in random different keys in the quickfire?

Also if possible can someone help me out on customizing my keycaps.. I have no clue on the lazer ecthed.. or the engraved things. Also the layout.. what? So confused! (If it's possible to have these custom keys BLANK with a color?)

Yea keycaps are able to be placed any where however keycaps are not cheap and a good custom set can set you back another 30-45 bucks depending on the quality.

I say overall get the otaku version if youwant it. It might cost you the same to get custom keycaps for your cm quick fire storm.

Scroll down and it explains the difference.

You can't just throw random caps from that 39 set in different spots on the keyboard as the profile wouldn't match and it'd be awkward on your fingers/hands (and it'll look funny). Each row of caps on those two particular keyboards have a different shape except for the # row and function row which share the same profile.

Plus you'd only need an 87 set to completely replace everything on the quickfire:
http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/87-key-cherry-mx-keycap-set.html

If you click on each of the "see example" links of the types of engraving, it'll help you to understand. For example:
http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/e/t/etchedvsengraved.jpg

And blank is an option with WASD. All WASD caps are ABS (for now), just like those stock on either of the boards you are looking at. So I take it you just want the blank look?

The CM Storm with browns is a solid choice. I'm a costar stabilizer fan. But you are looking at a higher price than the leopold if you end up with the 87 key set.

I'd suggest delving a bit deeper into all the threads here to learn more before worrying about caps. Seems like you've made your choice on switch-type which is a big step in itself for many people.
