Hi guys. Small dilemma here that I can't seem to make a decision on.

I have the rig in my sig. Life is good and I'll be upgrading again next year, but I do have a Socket A rig that the wife uses. The hard drive just died, and I recently saw Newegg selling the Fx55 and a 250 gig HD for $200. I'm thinking of that combo with the same board I use now, an MSI Neo-4.

This PC will be used mainly to just fold, as the wife just uses the PC for internet use. I want to stay with AMD as I know I could probably go with a Conroe, but I dont want to go that route. I do want to overlock this PC too. Whattya guys think? Buy this setup or go dual core? I like the FX label

Please vote and give me your opinions. Much appreciated.

BTW, Im trying to keep this budget minded. Essentially, because of the added HD, The chip would be ~$140-$150. Right where I wanna be.

Joe

If it's just for folding and internet browsing, go for the FX. No need for a dual core system here.
with what your planning on using it for go with the fx55 deal since that would be the cheapest bang for your buck type thing, other wise i would say get a dual core because you could do two folding instances and surf the net but it would cost more and you would have to overclock to get the same speed

The FX55 and 250GB for $200 is such a steal.
Well if its just for browsing and piddling around on the computer... i geuss you could go either way... But the fact remains, dual core will perfrom better. The FX-55 deal is quite a steal, so perhaps you should just hop on it while its avail.

just an idea if you go single core unless you allready have the mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103531
im sure you could get that to atleast 2.6 which would be the same as the fx55
and you could ad a wd hd to that for like 50$

oh and i saw this also, lower specs but its still a good cpu and hd for 99$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822135106

just some ideas

Well, I went with the Fx-55. Im putting it on the same board I run now with my opty 165. I'll post OC numbers as I've went with the BT for air cooling.

Thanks for the opinions.

Surfing and browsing, dual core
Dubble up the folding and still surf just fine
If she does just that, a Biostar TForce 6100-939 mATX w a deicent OB vid will save you the cost of a card and cover the differance of the X2.
