I hear clep always saying x20 the measured 'r' value for starters. So ~34kohms, so I think the next standard size is 36k.

FtW told me the same... so I think that's right.

I can't see the traces at all from the FB pin (6), so here's the first version going directly from that:

Mind taking a look at the zoomed image earlier (open it in another window... it has a resolution of 1748x1592) and trying to follow the trace?

EDIT: I put the compy back together for now but after looking at the pictures more, I think I found a useful trace from the FB pin:

I can't really see the traces either, but I'm also color blind so...tongue.gif. I don't see any via's so your path might be correct.

You can also just probe around for low ohm (~0) connections to find where it goes.

Once I found ground, I probed around to find the same resistance (one probe on ground, the other on resistors/capacitors in the area). The very last circle in the chain (on the SMD capacitor) had the same reading (1.7K). I can't recall if I checked the other resistors in the chain... I'll have to look into it tomorrow. If they're the same, I think I'll be doing this mod tomorrow sometime.

What I do is tape a safety pin to the probe on the dmm so it can get on the actual FB pin on the IC (tiny pin tip so it doesn't bridge anywhere, IC pins are tiny...), then check resistors nearby for continuity. Seeing the traces makes it easier, but still good to check continuity to make sure.

A good mod point will have both : 

 

continuity to ground

continuity to FB

 

...if the spot you found matches resistance and has continuity to ground on the other side.. you have found a suitable mod point. **You should be able to test with pencil as well.

Well... it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, I ran into the limit of the chipset (FSB) before I ran out of MHz. The highest I could validate was also the highest I could bench 1M.

Unfortunately I moved things around too much and ripped off the pad that I was soldered to and I only have 22 gauge wire left so it was too big to solder to anything else. I'll fix it on Monday when I go back to work.
