Build Log and Ocing E6300

So i have a processor and memory, now what to do with it. This is what I have so far:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
Patriot PC2 4200 533Mhz <Sratch that hopefully.

I need all other components. I def. want to get the ASUS P5B and I have no idea for the rest. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I already have the memory and proc coming, so I can't change them right now. I got the cheap Patriot, because this is a budget right now, till I get it all built up. All i know about the memory is that it operates at 1.8V, so I was thinking it might be 5-5-5-12 timings. I could be totally wrong on that. I need suggestions on everything else.

This computer will be used for occasional gaming, but not too much and I multi-task a bit when im doing homework and stuff on it.

Thanks Everyone!! (I'm so happy, because I am coming from a P4 3.06Ghz Prescott)

Crap.... wish you would have asked before you got that RAM. DDR2 533 will severely limit your overclocking.

I would recommend the GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 as a good overclockable motherboard for $142.99. Even the GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 for $115.99 is a very nice board. I don't know how well the vanilla P5B overclocks.

I would seriously consider returning the DDR2 533 RAM, get the S3 motherboar, and use the savings for at least DDR2 667, preferably DDR2 800

I bought it on eBay, so I can't return it unless it's DOA. What do you think the max OC will be with that ram??

EDIT: I am asking the guy if I could have a refund, and I will pay for the eBay auction insertion fee's. I hope he will give me a refund. I didn't know it would have that much of a damper on my OCing.

depends... at DDR2 533, you'd be running at 1:1 with the CPU. Thus, 1:1 overclock depends on how far you can take the RAM.

If the RAM can handle, say, DDR 640 speeds, then your max FSB is 320MHz (CPU clock 2.24GHz). I don't know though if your RAM can go that high. Maybe higher, maybe lower..

You can put RAM down on a divider.... the only other divider you can use is 3:4 (RAM at DDR2 400 speeds). This will allow an FSB of 355MHz (CPU: 2.485GHz) before the RAM is back at stock speeds. If your RAM can overclock a bit, an FSB of 400MHz might be possible.

However, putting the RAM on such divider will result in the RAM bottlenecking your rig.

Well hopefully the guy understands and gives me a refund. Which memory would u suggest??

i don't really have a budget right now, I am spending as I get it from paychecks and eBay sales. Hopefully that new computer comes through, so I can sell most of that.

Unfortunately memory speed has become the achiles heel of conroe systems, with the boards and processors capable of 500+ FSB even value DDR2 800 can limit your overclocking, especially with an E6300.

If the seller won't give you a refund, just put it back up on Ebay. You may lose some money on the transaction but your better off getting something back for it.

For ram look into the G. Skill 6400HZ (has to be HZ series, or GBGA) or OCZ Platinum. Both run about $270 for a 2g kit.

YEah.. DDR2 800 is recommended. If you can't afford it, get at least a single 1GB stick of DDR2 800, and add a second one later.
