Should I or should I not ?

Hey Gents

I am thinking of buying a new sound card to switch from my current onboard which is SupremeFX X-Fi2 on Maximus IV gene-z.

I'm currently looking at ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 ( for 70e ) which is max of what I am willing to give for a sound card. Is this card gonna be any better than my onboard one or should I just continue using my onboard one. The reason I want to upgrade is because I have a new Headset sennheiser PC 350 and I'm wondering if myb my onboard is good enough for my headset?

Pretty much any dedicated sound card is better then on board sound.

The Asus Xonar range is pretty good, I haven't used that model but I have a Xonar DG (Which is built for headphones) and my Roccat Kave headphones sound great with it, its pretty damn awesome.

I say go for it. Either the Xonar DX or possibly look at X-Fi Extreme Music and Extreme Gamer cards as they are both nice too.

Would this be enough

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer

No don't get me wrong I do read the reviews of hardware that I buy but I really don't have a clue for what to look for when it comes to sound cards smile.gif

I think for even 70 euro, it is still fair to get a DX. It's a good card.

Yes but the only problem I see now is that I have the Maximus IV gene-z motherboard so GPU and the sound card would be not very close but intimate if you know what I mean.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/Maximus_IV_GENEZ/

Now I don't won't to move my gpu to the second slot because its 8x and I'm worried that my sound card would die because of the heat because the gpu ( 7970 ) can reach 82 degrees while gaming.

EDIT: Can I put my sound card in the PCI-E x4 slot. Probably cun but I still gotta ask. Oh and I decide I'll go with Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro.

Ok I have 1 last question my only question is do the sennheiser PC 350 need a better sound card than my onboard or is the SupremeFX x-fi 2 enough for them. If not then I'm thinking on Titanium HD.

Yes, a 1x card can go in a 4x, a 8x, or a 16x slot. I think with those headphones, on-board sound is plenty.
