Do you have a place set out for it? I was planning on putting mine in the cellar but the wiring would be an issue. As would the damp.

The loft is right above my bedroom but I have no idea how to get power and Ethernet up there. Plus, like you said, dampness would be an issue, as well fine dust from the insulation.

Right now, this is the only place I can put it:

700

(Excuse the terrible photo) My desk and PC is to the left and the bed is behind me. So not that ideal, but it'll have to do. There is actually a closet, but it's not deep enough. frown.gif

You could put it into the loft. It'd require a tiny amount of drilling though. As for electricity id' just run an extension cable rather than have a dedicated outlet put in.

Wouldn't humidity for a problem, especially for sensitive hardware like hard drives?

If noise isn't an issue then the top of the wardrobe looks good.

Actually I think we have the same wardrobe, just you've bothered to paint/stain/something it. If it is the same one, I'm not sure I'd trust it to hold a file server tongue.gif

I don't know about issues you might have with putting it in the loft, but I'd imagine overall it wouldn't be a problem as long as your loft is well insulated.

It's some cheap generic one from Argos, I just stained it to match my desk and bedside chest. redface.gif It doesn't move though; fixed to the wall at two places using L brackets.

As to the loft, I just stuck my head up there, and I can definitely feel the temperature difference. Touched some boxes and they felt cool (but not cold), so I'm not sure if I should go ahead with that ..

Yeah it's the same one as mine except mine has some drawers in the bottom, and I haven't stained it because I don't really know where to begin lol

I still think you'd be alright with it in the loft, but obviously you would want to do your research before just stuffing it up there permanently and you'd want to keep a close eye on it until you were certain it was going to be okay.

I didn't even do any research, just went to B&Q, bought a tin of wood stain with matching colour. Had to do 3 coats to get it dark enough. And I've put the loft idea on hold until I find out how noisy it is once it is completely up and running.

Got the bits and pieces today. Just whacked it all in and I'm installing Windows 8 now. Speaking of bits and pieces, I expected the drives to be Samsung, like the one I already have, but the ones I got were branded Seagate with Seagate model number (HD204UI was mentioned once in tiny letters). Checked them with HDTune, no issues. wheee.gif

The only thing I'm waiting for now is the 3x 120mm mid plate from Xcase.

This build is going faster and with less hiccups than I thought it would. biggrin.gif
