GTX 670 SLI or HD 7970 CFX? - Page 11

I've yet to see any kind of decently sized survey or research into microstuttering. The most up to date and in depth analysis I can find is with techreport's 690 review including frame time benchmarking and subjective conclusions regarding the overall smoothness of the setups tested. Have a read through the 3rd page and the benchmarks so that you know what to look for.

To the OP, the best idea is probably to go with a single card 680 for now. Spend the extra $$ on a 120hz monitor. If youre only playig a 60hz it doesnt make a damn bit of difference which card you pick. Later on when games like Crysis 3 and the Unreal 4 engine come out you can just buy another one for less than than it would cost now.

There is one big factor thats been overlooked in this thread so far and thats the fact that GK104 cards are still very new and should start seeing decent performance increases over time. Right now the 7970 can trade blows with the GTX 680 when the clocks are matched up. Pretty soon a steady stream of Nvidia drivers will start to change that. Even my GTX460's that are close to 2 years old have seen improvements with recent driver updates. Over the last 6 months games like Skyrim have improved nearly 25% just from driver updates. Crysis 2, BF3 have seen noticeable improvements as well. My vote goes for Nvidia.

I'm very excited for their review using a high-speed camera capable of recording several hundred pictures at once. There is far too much subjectivity put into these reviews and far too little actual data to rely on.

You say that as though AMD cards never see any performance increases through driver updates. rolleyes.gif

As was stated above, if BF3 is your sole concern then the 670's are probably your best choice...

Thread Starter
Well, Every game that comes out will be my concern. I play all the titles.
Rep for the charts.

however each review i read, the 670 and 7970 win and lose against each other in the same games.

QFT. Which is why I vote for either. I chose 670 over 7970 because of price and the fact that I've had better luck with nvidia drivers, and had no microstutter issues with my sli 480s.

I didnt say that at all actually. I said that the GK104 cards are still brand new and given Nvidias long track record of constant updates, noticeable performance gains will be coming over the next few months just from driver support alone. The 79xx series has been around for over 6 months, and given AMD's track record there isnt a whole lot of improvements coming.

Also forgot to mention the 680 may also get a voltage increase.
