[FUD] Activision cuts $42 million to MW2 staff - Page 4

Am I reading wrong or is this a positive thing rather then a negative? Or did Activision owe the developers more?

While I don't like when companies pull jerk moves, isn't profit the sole reason a company even exists whether it is public (especially public) or privately owned?

Now the banks have trillions upon trillions of credit default and interest rate swaps, which they've created in order to destroy entire nations and the world for their own greed. In fact they have created over ten times (some say 15 and over) the world's GDP in derivatives. In their fantasy world of impunity it's very much possible because Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan are, in effect, the banks that control the Federal Reserve of New York.
As for capitalism: I love it. Price fixing, monopolies, lobbies (bribes and swindles), cartel forming, etc. are absolutely fantastic. The only difference between the Milton Friedman and Keynes version of unchecked money hoarding and any other -ism is our delusions and the propaganda being blasted at us.
I recommend anyone wishing to understand this system better look into the lectures of Chossudovsky, the documentary The Money Masters and, of course, the Zeitgeist films.

yes, i suppose that was a very round-about lengthy, and indirect answer which turned an opportunity to criticize the hypercapitalist system which leaves me unsure whether i was any more enlightened at all about my question. oh and a few movie recommendations during breaks between my algebra homework

No it's not, it's the perversion of the concept of corporation or company that we have now. This false idea was borne not long ago in the eighteenth century. Prior to that a 'corporation' existed to provide a certain service to society. However, Adam Smith came up with a corrupted form of economics that then gave birth to all the horrendous business practices we have today. Of course he didn't come up with his ridiculous idea's all on his own but that's not a discussion for an open forums.

Not directed at you personally, but is it just me, or does anyone else think that kickstarter, while it's been used by game devs in the recent past, was more for the development of technology (as opposed to video games)? Not that it matters, since investors can choose where they want to invest anyway, and if they want to invest in video game developers/publishers, then that's their choice.

I remember this dispute. Tell me if I have the story wrong, okay?

The basic gist is this:

Infinity Ward made an amazingly popular game that sold a bajillion copies. The publisher that made a ton of profit off of their work didn't want to pay the employees their cut of the profits that was due to them defined by terms of their contract. They thought they could bully them down. Instead the team leads walked and within a month or two most of Infinity Ward's team was gone.

Now, finally, after months of legal wrangling, Activision is grudgingly dispensing a portion of those earnings as they should have several years ago.

I don't understand your logic.

They paid their employees money...

If I ran a business and did well, would you call me a jerk if I gave my employees money instead of hording it to myself?

So long as you have unlimited raw materials, land, a permanent underclass and you're the #1 world power, sure it's great.

As it stands capitalism would have failed twice already if not for those facts. Once in the 1920's and just recently in 2007. Even if it succeeds now, it's not sustainable.
