sabertoth 990fx broken socket

Thread Starter
ive just purchased a asus sabertooth board and the seller states this

"Broke the bracket on removal of CPU Motherboard has all power lights and worked untill the Cpu bracket broke Red light emits"

updated title and 1st post:

well i received the board today while at work and the seller was right and wrong. the socket is broken but just the retension not the socket itself.
all the pins are intact athough some covered in glue but the part that hold sthe cpu is in bits and the top where the foxconn is witten is scorched and melted but the socket isnt.

this would be better described with pics whcih will be up soon
and guys this format of socket is going be with us for a while the 3 pins that are filled in are there so its a 945 socket

where can i get a am3+ slider/retension from ive looked on ebay an can only find am3

Can he or did he provide a pic? IIRC... ASUS charges $125 for socket replacement, though if you scream loud enough its less or done under warranty RMA.

Had no contact from seller but pic on listing looks as if it's the board and the socket looks ok but looks as if there is paste everywhere round the socket.
I'm goin guess the stock hs was used and the paste on them is like super glue so my guess is the CPU came out with the heatsink.
Received email that its been shipped should get tomorrow or sat

(happened to me once n everything was ok)

Need to put up a pic to show you guys but I think this can be fixed.
The board arrived today and when he said the socket was broken he was right and wrong,

It's actually the bit the CPU sits into and slides n locks in place.
The pins underneath apart from covered in glue look like they are all intact.
Can a new slide cover be put on

edit:
i found the old gigabyte board out the wardrobe and it has a am2 white socket holder you guys think if i poke one the holes out that it would work.

heres some pics, further investigating seems the socket is damaged as there is glue in some of the pins and a couple are bent.

cant seem to find am am3+ socket anywhere all i can find is am3. i could use this and try to reball myself but that means the board cant be used with bulldozer or piledriver cpus.

Since AM3+ CPUs can be used on some AM3 motherboards, you should be able to install the upper parts of an AM3 socket on your motherboard without having issues with Bulldozer CPUs.

I have been Intouch with asus and still awaiting responses but I want your experience and opinions on what could try.

1st option is to buy a am3 socket thats already balled from china and use my heat gun to try n put it on or
2nd buy a am3+ board and take the socket reball and try and attach it.

I know both these ideas are going be hard but I have nothin 2 lose just the cost of the board and cheap parts
