sabertoth 990fx broken socket - Page 2

If you feel comfortable with this type of work AND have the right tools for the job then do it yourself. But honestly I would have ASUS do it... It may end up costing (time and money) about the same anyway, unless of course ASUS repair costs are ridiculous.

I have a heat gun solder wick solder iron and paste and flux. I'm going to wait for asus to reply 1st then go from there, the socket from china is already reballed so will just have to align it on the board,

This would be my 1st time attempting this but I'll have ago
I've had to attach small bits to boards before

Asus will tell you that the damage isn't covered under RMA due to user fault, and they will say they can repair it for $125. I had asked them with a previous Asus board.. so unless you made up some BS lie about this they aren't take an RMA for the board.

If only there was a way to test the board before going through all that, but I would do it... sounds like a fun little project. Best of luck!

im going to pick up a cheap processor to test semprons on ebuyer for £25. there is glue in a couple of the holes how could i get that out, i have articlean 1 n 2 but that dont work

will be a fun progect at the end of the day nothin to lose.

ive looked on ebay and found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tyco-Socket-AM3-941-Pin-Processor-Base-Connector-Holder-AMD-CPU-/230720330015?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b800d91f looks like all the bits are balled if not im sure i can do the one for am3+ and try put a hole in where it should be on the white slider i mean the pins are there just covered. i have asked im my local mobile repair shop see if they can find me a am3+ socket, the lad in there can find almost anythin

can i test the board with no cpu and also a cant put a cpu inplace as no socket mechanism

Hi there! I have been reading this threat because i have the extact same problem. Looks like AMD sockets have that problem for being plastic.

I gotta a question Can a Processor work if its installed directly? I mean with a heatsink properly installed it shouldn't move and its connected directly to the mobo, also the retention system is only for holding the processor, inst it?

I want to save my mobo which is a MSI 970-G45, I am about to buy a new one but i have to see if there's any way to make it work.

if your retension bracket is still intact but the lever isnt working then it could fit and hold in place, my problem is the socket is completely broken so i cant put the cpu on.

to add to the thread ive had to purchase am3 socket from china as i cant find a am3+ socket anywhere

The problem is that the retention bracket is exactly broken as yours! just like the picture you uploaded with both retention the white and the black one.
