Best $500 Headphones?

I was going to buy the Ultrasone 550 and then a separate gaming headset (something like the ASTRO A40). But then I was thinking maybe are headphones that I can use with my phone at school, then come home and use it as a headset for games any ideas? Also, I live in the US, max price is $500, and I listen to Hip-Hop/Rap.

I edited the OP and Title to make it less confusing.

Once your get out of the $200 price range...you need an amp to feel the big difference really. (Generally)

So, if you are talking $500, Ultrasone Pro 750 (bass lenient), Audio Technica AD2000 (Highs Lenient), Sennheiser HD650 (Highs Lenient)....those would probably be the best for gaming, and all around usage. If you are up for it though, I would get two different cans or more...so you can get into the audiophile game and test out what you like. I would go with Beyerdynamic DT770s, and also get Audio Technica AD900 or Beyerdynamic DT880s...then figure out if you like Highs or Lows better. Comfort is huge too at this price point btw.

Could I use those for a headset to talk to my teammates? Because they do not look like I can. Also I just looked on OCN Most Recommended Audio products, and they said they do not recommend headsets due to the bad quality. But then I was wondering how do I communicate with my teammates on PC, and PS3?

EDIT: I was planning on getting the E11 when I use it with my phone.

For any of the headphones you will have to use a clip on mic. You can get a cheap one off amazon. Then clip it on to your shirt, or your headphone cable. Some people also use desktop mics. If its a closed back headphone you can take Velcro and place the mic on the side if its one of those desktop mics or mics with a long part.

I don't know about PS3, but for PC the best headphones with integrated mic (ie. headset) that I know of are the Beyerdynamic MMX300.

Im not a pro with a that kind of buget , but I pretty sure you will need a amp if you want to be able to take full advantage of them.

for the clip mic I know zalman made one for less than 10$

Well since quoting seems to be bugged...

I would not advise you to go the 'gaming' can route...clip on is much better. Actually if you get one you can adjust really well so it is on your desk...it can be of much greater quality for a slight up in price...no clue on where to go in the mic route though. The Zalman is perfectly fine.

The Beyerdynamic MMX300/330 are just another version of the 770 I am pretty sure, more expensive, nicer looking for gamers and mic'd. I would pass on them and spend your money on a cheaper mic and better cans/amp.

Definitely go the amp route...or discreet soundcard route...much better quality. Got my Xonar D1...and will NEVER go back.

Oh and a phone isn't the greatest source on-the-go honestly. Sansa's products have some killer internal amps for the money.

Great those are just the answers I was looking for. Just to make sure the clip on mic will also work with ps3 right? Also what should I do if they are closed headphones?
